Currys the good bad and the ugly

Pros

1. Probably some of the best wage you will make in retail 2. Your fellow colleagues are lovely and make the job worth it. 3. You will make a real difference when helping customers. 4. Interaction with lovely people daily.

Cons

1. Understaffed 2. Mangers in the store do not care about you, you are a number and nothing else. 3. Upper management does not care about you and will hardly interact with you when they come for a store visit unless its for press. 4. No consistency with hours you could sometimes be working your minimum contract then the next week you're expected to work 20-30hours+ 5. Change your shift without warning and expect you to check your shifts daily. 6. The odd rude customer can be infuriating. 7. Expected to know everything about anything as they no longer have specialist roles.

Hi there, Thank you for leaving a review, we're glad to hear you value the working environment and benefits. We appreciate your feedback on the other matters and would like to take a moment to reply. We want to be a company that celebrates capable and committed colleagues and helps them achieve their best. As a retail business, it’s very important that we are there when our customers need us to be – whether that’s visiting a shop, receiving a delivery or calling us; our colleagues will need to work shift patterns that are best for our customers and reflect trading patterns. All our retail colleagues have a central induction at The Academy in Fort Dunlop where they get to learn all about customer service, meet suppliers and receive training on the latest technology. We would recommend colleagues speak with their line managers about their development so training plans can be tailored to individual progression plans. All colleagues have access to an Aviva Digital GP app and an Aviva Wellbeing benefits app and we provide all colleagues with access to our confidential colleague helpline for times when it’s not easy to have a particular conversation with your line manager. Thanks, the team at Currys.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a response. We’re sorry to hear you feel this way. We've recently introduced schemes such as ‘babble boards’ and feedback boxes to help provide an easy way of giving anonymous feedback straight to senior leaders. Thanks, the team at Dixons Carphone

Awful Management

Pros

Pay was OK (not great)

Cons

- Stupidly high targets and were penalised for not hitting them - Management never know what’s going on and are the worst at leading colleagues - Colleagues were extremely rude and management did nothing about it - Were expected to do more than our job title (i.e. stopping people from stealing when there were security guards) - Area was awful - Managers have no regard for personal life and expect you to work dumb hours even if you’re part time, for example they once have me a shift from 10am to 9pm

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a response on Glassdoor. We're sorry to hear that you feel this way, and we wanted to reply to some of the comments you've made. Dixons Carphone is a company that exists to help our customers enjoy amazing technology. Our retail colleagues do have targets to achieve, but out focus is always on our customers, and making them happy. By offering customers the right ranges of products and services, we not only succeed in making them happy, we meet performance targets as well. Helping our customers to enjoy amazing technology also requires that we are there for our customers when they need us. Dixons Carphone colleagues do therefore need to work shift patterns that are best for our customers and reflect trading patterns. As a company that encourages an open and honest working environment, we want our colleagues to feel free to have conversations with their managers about any issues or concerns that they might have. We do, however, recognise that some conversations are difficult to have with mangers, and that's why we would encourage our colleagues to speak to their mentors or with HR. We also provide all colleagues with access to our confidential employee helpline, so that they can privately discuss issues or concerns. Regards, The Dixons Carphone Team
