Pros

1) Give opportunities to people without consultancy experience unlike a lot of other places I applied to before joining (the main reason for the 2 star overall rating, otherwise would have been 1) 2) Like any workplace, some lovely people...not all! 3) In my first year I was allowed to move projects if it didn't suit my skill set/careers aspirations. That stopped into my 2nd year

Cons

1) Too cliquey, if you don't get in with the "right crowd"....good luck on any promotions 2) Promotions lean heavily on who you know rather quality of delivery. Seen loads of great people leave, who delivered exceptional work, move as Capco failed (maybe refused) to see quality of work 3) Coaching/mentoring is questionable at best...unless you find someone who is a personality match. There was minimal coaching interaction with the coaches I had. 4) Bonuses are poor unless you sell 5) Expected to do a lot of out of hours commercial work to get a top mid/high end of year ratings...you will have to say bye to family life if want to push for it. If you do little to none, expect mid range/low rating for ratings and PIPs 6) Trying to maintain a small sized consultancy family culture. Considering the company has grown so much, culture should be adapted inline with growth. As this has not been done, there is no clear culture/vaules and the company seems to be lost 7) If you're on the bench, be prepared to do roles on random projects that do not match your skill sets/career aspirations. I got asked to "take one for the team" on far too many occasions than I would like. I was in the Capital Markets practice for my time at the firm, not one of projects was Capital Markets based 8) More of a bodyshopping firm than consulting. Next to no advisory projects

Thank you for sharing some well-considered feedback. I am pleased that you were able to join Capco with limited experience and, once there, explore projects and opportunities outside your skillset. I think that this demonstrates our commitment to development and inclusion. You list 8 shortcomings and the firm has responded to all of these. 1. Promotions - the firm has procedures in place to ensure that all promotion decisions are reviewed for fairness and to ensure they are supported by a sound business case. Individuals are able to lodge an appeal if they feel a decision is incorrect. 2. Clearly it makes no sense for the firm to ignore people worthy of promotion so they leave. Our whole business model is founded on retaining and advancing talent in the firm. 3. Coaching - if you wanted more coaching you could have requested this through your line manager, coach or HR contact. Different people want different amounts of coaching, but we will always to meet an employees needs if we are aware. 4. Pay - bonuses and base pay are benchmarked against those paid in our competitors. In all areas of the business they are related to a holistic view of contribution. 5. Balance - people in Capco are not rated on the hours that they work but the contribution they make to the firm. The firm is regularly commended for promoting a more sensible work life balance than the competition. Many people balance a successful career at Capco with other responsibilities outside the firm. 6. Culture - the firm has tried to maintain an inclusive culture as we have grown and feedback on this forum suggests some success in doing this. Certainly many cite our culture and regular celebratory and team events as one of the ways that Capco is different. 7. Bench - people without projects may be expected to work outside their typical business area until opportunities arise in their own area. This is a way for people to develop new skills and extend their networks. You cited the chance to work outside a strict area as being one of the benefits of Capco. 8. Opportunities - the firm makes no secret of the range of opportunities on offer at Capco and the chance for people to work on different projects as they develop their skills and career. Growth delivers more opportunities for our people.

Pros

- Great entry point, foot in door of financial services - People generally approachable - Pay is not bad - Free Sprite

Cons

- Rapid growth has resulted in lowering of overall standard of employees hired - Cliquey culture. You have to be in with the right people to progress (consistent feedback on this site, yet continually denied in the Capco Response) - Very little real consultancy work. It's staff augmentation - High risk of being stuck on a single engagement for a long time - Staff often left out on their own on client site, and forgotten about - Coaching system does not work. At all. - Massive staff turnover - Highly competitive & political. A lot of very senior people don't even like each other - Not interested in feedback or to improve anything (just read some of the Capco Responses on this site to see this illustrated. The usual trite company lines get wheeled out). - Perception of brand in the market (by clients) is low - Over-reliant on small amount of large accounts

It is true that rapid growth has led to some changes in the firm, though these are less about a cliquey culture and more about the standardization of policies across the firm. Our One Capco agenda has now delivered a wide range of firm-wide policies and programs on mobility, performance management and training, to ensure that all staff across the globe are treated fairly and consistently. Central to these provisions is the right to understand the decisions that relate to you. Promotions in particular are monitored carefully and subject to review by a range of stakeholders to ensure it is about ‘what you contribute, not who you know’. There are a wide range of projects across the firm and, if you feel that you are ignored, you can talk to your coach, manager, HR contact or resourcing specialist. It makes no sense for the firm to have talented people in roles that don’t motivate and engage. We are always eager to match projects to career plans and development. Turnover is consistent with other consultancies competing for talent, and has improved significantly in the last 18 months. Leadership is increasingly diverse and inclusive. Importantly, leadership forums are a place where disagreement will occur from time to time and challenge is encouraged, but we see this as a sign of healthy leadership. Brand awareness of Capco has never been so high and we have recently undertaken a refresh of our website to better reflect our services and offerings to clients. The fact that we respond to reviews like this on Glassdoor indicates that we acknowledge and respond to feedback and look to improve the employee experience. In contrast, most of our competitors don’t respond to comments on this forum. We encourage you to raise your concerns with you manager or HR rather than via this forum, so that the firm has the chance to make improvements. If you are open to a confidential discussion, please reach out to Neil Hunsworth in the HR team.

Pros

- The firm has very decent people in the AO-SC classes. A disproportionate number of mid and upper-level management are snaky and very fake. - The office looks very cool. - Very fun holiday parties.

Cons

- Finding work and getting placed on a decent project is more political than working on Capitol Hill. Getting onto a decent project is purely dependent on who you know and how much they were willing to help you. - Few exit ops and transferable skills - The company should pay the marketing/HR team more than the CEO because they do an amazing job at deceiving graduates from tier-1 universities to join a “consulting firm” where 95% of projects aren’t even legitimate consulting projects. They are mindless staff aug and data governance projects. - Most of the reviews on Glassdoor are written by employees who were told to write positive reviews by partners at the firm.

We were disappointed to read your feedback, as it does not reflect the vast majority of feedback we receive, not only on this forum, but across all forums. Capco has had tremendous success hiring and retaining top talent, and providing outstanding opportunities for growth and development. While consulting is not for everyone, and not every assignment will be your dream project, the learning, growth and advancement that takes place at Capco is significant. Like any management consultancy, Capco has a mix of clients and projects at any time. Sometimes the balance will be towards leading edge and innovative solutions that shape the market and sometimes projects will be more routine. Most people will be expected to work on a range of projects during their career at Capco. Employees are allocated to projects by professional Resourcing Specialists deployed in the business and, if an employee is unhappy with the nature of their project, they can discuss this with their manager and/or HR. As a firm, we want to ensure that our people are working in areas that motivate and develop them so that they want to continue their career with Capco. If any employee has a concern to raise, we would encourage them to reach out to their local HR contact or the US HR Director, Mary Keller.
