Pros

Colleagues and management alike were almost all extremely supportive and you received recognition for a job well done. Equally if they were disattisfied with your performance at work or giving any other causes for concern they were also fairly and promptly addressed. The branch I worked at was a friendly place to work with a good atmosphere. Management on the whole were respectful to the other employees. Also, I enjoyed my job.

Cons

Actually there were few downsides to working for B & Q .Occasionally there were periods of confusion within the workforce when one manager would instruct an employee(s) to undertake a t ask in one way and then someone else would issue differing instructions. Also when they were pursuing a policy of cut backs with staff the shop was on many occasions understaffed. As people left their jobs they were seldom replaced putting the remainder of the workforce under r some stress as they were expected to take on the duties of the people who had left leaving some members of staff to complain that they were expected to do more work than they felt competent to do. This lead to poor staff morale at times.

Pros

flexible hours, great team spirit and variety in roles on offer. no two days are alike, makes a refreshing change from similar employers. very good at treating people as individuals, and do support promotion from within as well as change of location.

Cons

lack of staff, the industry is in a downturn and this is leading to cutbacks, understandable but frustrating. customers expect every member of staff to be an expert in every section, some retail jobs are just shelf stacking and standards, but b&q employees are seen as expert decorators/plumbers/electricians/joiners etc, even if they are only employed to work on a till.

Pros

From the CEO to shop floor staff, I can see almost everyone working hard and having fun, isn't that a good company to work for?

Cons

Downside? There aren't many that I can think of. Maybe they should have ex-worker 5% discount? You will see personnel change fairly frequent, which is not boosting the morale.
