Pros

(1) You'll meet nice people, especially those you start the role together with. (2) In terms of professional benefits you'll gain basic LinkedIn search & time management skills. (3) Progression to manager is possible within 2-2.5 years but realistically its last man standing here.

Cons

(1) The biggest issue here is the company strategy of hiring large numbers of very skilled and motivated recent grads, promising to be a caring employer but doing the opposite. During my time, many people have left due to toxic team culture, unrealistic targets and heavy micromanagement. Besides that, people will get fired during 3min Zoom calls or directly in the office and get escorted out of the building to avoid questions. I would estimate almost half of the people I started with had left within 6 months, meeting people in the office that have been there for 2+ years is rare. (2) There is a week of training towards the start but many tricky areas that do exist within the role are avoided and create problems down the line. The training primarily aims at quickly getting you to recruit advisors. (3) Achieving monthly targets is heavily dependent on the specific team and projects worked on. The targets do not get reviewed quarterly or adjusted in line with macroeconomic developments. (4) Core office hours result in at least a 45h work week, however many associates will heavily exceed that with people working after 7:30 PM being a regular occurrence. WFH is not appreciated with only Friday being a remote work day and an overall feeling that Senior Management wants people in the office to supervise and control them better. (5) Team managers are mostly in their mid-twenties with purely AlphaSights experience resulting in a very limited scope of experience. Despite the youthfulness, overall hierarchies are top-down, criticism or slightly more critical feedback isn't really appreciated (6) Work-life balance is bad. People suffer from burnout, anxiety and high levels of pressure.

At AlphaSights, we hire ambitious professionals who want to own results, build a track record of achievement, and accelerate their careers. We accept that we are not a place for everyone. We are open about the fact that the first two years are tough: our Associates take on frontline responsibility that requires hard work, grit, and perseverance day by day. It is not a role in which one can procrastinate or duck away. But through delivering client success day in day out, our Associates learn first hand how the client frontline works and how the extra mile delivers commercial success and financial rewards. And this sets them apart from their peers and accelerates their careers both at AlphaSights and beyond. Fundamentally, we exist to deliver success to our clients, and to power career advancement for our people. Our track record shows that when we deliver along these dimensions, company success follows. - The AlphaSights Team

Culture is Rotting

Pros

Work is interesting, and because you're so stretched, and operating with little to no planning/structure it's at least engaging and challenging but certainly not sustainable.

Cons

There is a culture of secrecy and obfuscation around high-level decisions that is felt company-wide and is almost insultingly obvious. Recently moved back to a 4-1 rotation ignoring what the company seems to be screaming for and almost certainly moving to 5-0 as soon as they possibly can. This has made hiring reliable, quality talent incredibly difficult between pay and work-life balance. There seems to be no structure to compensation levels, and it's all just worked out by C-suite levels who give little to no information on how they came to that conclusion, The pay is significantly lower than the market average for a company of this size and quality. I'm positive the shift will push back to 5-0 rapidly, and the sentiment will be "Oh well, deal with it" and lean on an upcoming economic recession to mitigate any pushback from the hiring pools/existing employees which I have overhead multiple employees openly joke about. I don't know about you but "Where else are they going to go now" isn't a company culture I'd like to be a part of. Seems like the company is facing questionable times (as are many) but decided to abandon most of the things they so flagrantly boasted about during COVID/pre-pandemic times. My exit interview lasted around 10 minutes and felt like I was bothering the person facilitating it. Do not work here, they're marching in a very bad direction.

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts. As a large employer of early talent, we are responsible for offering them the highest quality, hands-on training to help them develop to their full potential. We understand this work model isn't for everyone, but we're confident increasing in-office attendance will provide opportunities to fuel professional growth among all employees. - The AlphaSights Team

Pros

There are no pros here.

Cons

In the past, I would have said the work-life balance was good, but now the company has decided to stab its employees in the back and renege on its promised word of 3+2 remote work forever. Work can be mundane while also over-asking of the average associate. The firm likes to market itself as a top-tier employer but constantly pinches pennies, it promotes a culture of non-transparency behind executive decision-making as well as compensation (telling associates not to inform other regions like the US or EMEA or specialty cohorts of raises). This not only feels morally wrong but also illegal in light of salary transparency laws and leadership reminds you time and time again not to discuss your pay with other regions or groups. Their worst case is if employees discover there are discrepancies and demand raises as has now happened 2 times. Heaven forbid they try to treat employees right or stick to their word. AlphaSights also loves to try to say that you are so much better off there despite the lower pay because of the balance they offer. (While at the same time walking away from the things that promoted that balance and which should fully be considered compensation/benefits as listed under their own job postings like remote work). No one has faith in, trusts, or even likes C-Suite leadership or VP teams and while the managers are all great, everyone is always seeking to exit after a year on the job once they see how the company really is. I used to love working here, but now all I want to do is leave for a company that respects me and my fellow employees for the work we do and treats us how we want to be treated. I implore you, do not work here.

Thank you for your feedback. We believe that hands-on training is helpful for our talent, who are often in the early stages of their careers. Increasing in-office attendance provides an opportunity to facilitate this professional growth most effectively. We appreciate that our renewed work model isn’t for everyone. With respect to your comments on pay - we take our responsibilities under pay transparency rules seriously and we are confident that we comply with all applicable laws. - The AlphaSights Team
