Pros

Great benefits, PTO, Good Salary, plus monthly commission and also enrollment in company "growth plan" (somewhat like RSU at public companies); Specifically for the Manager Development Program, there are clear benchmarks for promotion within a year (moving on to leading a team + significant salary bump), but in general there are also great internal and external exit opportunities for the Client Service Role; You get to work alongside extremely capable people and meet some very interesting experts in the day-to-day work of recruiting advisors for the clients; In the SF office, the support system is really one of a kind and management is willing to do most anything they can to support you; You have a lot of autonomy to develop a huge range of highly transferable/in-demand skills thoroughly and quickly (project management, negotiation, recruitment, account management, etc.).

Cons

80+% of the company is straight out of college/has never worked anywhere else, which makes for an interesting dynamic--there's also the typical corporate lack of diversity (particularly racial and economic) that is talked about constantly but needs clearer actioning on; The hours are quite long, which wasn't unexpected but was different from advertised in interview process (10 hour days are the norm/average, and that's when it's not exceptionally busy), especially as you're in the earlier months of learning to do the job; Probation period (3 month and 6 month "integration process") that isn't mentioned before hiring and which does lead to termination in cases; Accepting the job comes with big limitations on investing in stock market (rightly so due to the nature of the work) that should have been explained during the offer stage rather than after hiring.

I appreciate you leaving this detailed review. It is great to read that you feel supported in your role and that you're enjoying our financial compensation package. We give our employees responsibility and autonomy early on, and offer them support so they learn quickly. This can feel like a lot of pressure at times but when employees are promoted or move on from AlphaSights, they have immense experience and knowledge under their belt. Thank you for sharing your experiences regarding the interview/offer process — we will take your feedback onboard as we look to improve role clarity for candidates. Thanks, Sloan, SVP, San Francisco

Pros

- fun coworkers - social events -

Cons

- official hours are 50 hours a week but you often are expected to work 60+ hours a week - management is only former associates, leading to 1) a resistance to change (idea is “I sucked it up so you have to too,” 2) inexperienced 20-somethings with too much authority over peers and 3) leadership who did end up sticking around were the people who played into the toxic culture and perpetuate it - you are expected to be “on” until you sleep. client communications at 11pm are expected to be addressed. Client communications at 6am are expected to be addressed before you start work. - pay is not great, and if you don’t hit “hurdle” you get no commission at all - over 50% turnover across teams is not normal. They take smart, driven kids, burn them out, and then seek out a new class to suck up all remaining shreds of dignity and hope

I'm sorry to hear you did not have a good experience working at AlphaSights. I've responded to a few topics you raised below: Workload: Like many other professional services companies, we occasionally do need to respond to clients outside of working hours. I recognize that this is not your average 9-5 job and that this role is not for everyone. We do offer a generous vacation package and wellbeing resources to make sure people take time off to recharge. Management: Our managers are younger, and this is why top-tier talent joins AlphaSights. We have robust HR and PD processes in place that help managers get up to speed quickly, and help them course-correct when needed. I do appreciate your feedback and we will continue to listen to our employees and determine the best courses of action to continue improving our firm. In response to your advice, we believe feedback is a huge benefit and essential to any individual's growth. We ask everyone to provide feedback to their managers (including our co-CEOs) because feedback helps everyone better themselves, regardless of how senior they are. Leadership also collects feedback at least twice a year through an employee survey and we study it in detail before deciding on any process changes. We juggle lots of different factors when making decisions, but employee feedback is one of the most important. I wish you well in your next chapter. Thanks, Sean, COO

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. AlphaSights works with some of the biggest and most successful companies globally, which means there are high expectations for the level of service we provide and the people we employ. Working in a global business also means we have projects that span multiple time zones, which often requires working longer hours while giving you the opportunity to make connections across multiple regions. Concerning your KPI comment, our individuals are driven by results - this mentality is vital to succeeding here. - Thank you, Chris SVP Asia
