Pros

- work at your own pace

Cons

- manager > engineer. Speaker more than worker - confusing management level, priority are different from multiple management - workload distribution unbalance among the team - senior do not mean senior only year that count not reflecting efficiency and quality of work.

Pros

- OT pay quite good on weekends (for 8-6 weekday) - Canteen food is very good. Far better than Micron or GF.

Cons

- Horrible social atmosphere. Alot of self-pity and negativity. - Overworked bosses that looked very demotivated. - Dirty toilets that are always overcrowded. - Old engineers that hold way too much information and eventually become irreplaceable assets to company. They use this as leverage against their managers to come late for meetings, to not teach young blood properly etc. - OT culture that extends to working beyond 6pm is the norm. You might get criticized for not taking your work seriously if you do not stay back. OT on weekdays is not claimable due to a rule where you can't claim during dinnertime. - Career progression for grad engineers very unclear. Basically you become engineer lvl 1 then 2 then 3. - Pay progression is not attractive too. Senior engineers earning less than 5k/mth after working for more than 10 years do exist.

Pros

Good for retirement and those who do not mind to stay put at their comfort zone. Salary considered not bad especially for those who work for long, with quite good bonuses too.

Cons

Quite common and sadly saying that the higher management will fight for his/her survival in order to stay as employed due to the lean/restructuring-that means it will also affect their staff's employability. Those who worked for many years such as 10/20 or 30 years will have compensation but not for those not so old staff. Hence, it looks bad to continue hiring while there's already planning to cut down headcount. Of course, what I had mentioned may not represent for the whole of STM because STM is very big. It depends on which one you have been employed and also the department.
