Pros

- Stable job - People are generally very friendly and helpful - Ok benefits (pension and healthcare schemes) - Good social events - Good first job for graduates

Cons

- Management is not approachable and doesn't know how to communicate with employees - Lack of progression (this is huge in the checking department and usually the company loses good employees because of that) - Always the same people getting promoted (and generally they are friends with their managers) - Bad/lack of communication (some managers just don’t talk to their team and, as a result, often people feel discouraged, lost, like no one even cares about them… is that how you want to nurture relationships and keep employees for a long time?) - Low salary and, if that wasn't enough, there is also a low salary increase annually, which means the people that have been working there for a longer period of time get paid almost the same as the people just starting in the company - It's almost impossible to get a translator position (the company is looking for specialists in some areas and funds courses to some in-house people, you just have to be English or German as the rest of the languages don't seem to exist and, believe me, they need more in-house translators in some languages as the freelancers they work with are usually unreliable) - Lack of organisation that leads to client complaints and promotes a “blaming culture” - No positive feedback, priority given to negative feedback instead. There is a general lack of appreciation for employees.

Pros

-The actual teams of non-management employees were amazing people, if overworked and obviously stressed. -Good pay and benefits -Lots of good experience

Cons

-Management, especially at the C-Suite level, was a mess. In Life Sciences specifically leadership was terrible during my tenure. Constant infighting that spilled downwards. While there were some exceptions (The heads of Quality and Sales/Marketing were nice, as was the former Director) on the whole management is toxic. -No sense of where the company is going. People laid off clearly to protect the bottom line with no respect for their years of loyalty. -The Mothership of RWS in England barely showed any interest in the Life Sciences division, and never helped. -Sterile and unfriendly work environment. People would stick to their cliques in their teams, but rarely ventured beyond that.

Pros

A global company, with all the pros and cons that come with that. If you like interacting with people from different countries and cultures on a daily basis, this is a place for you. There are many young, enthusiastic and talented people who are fun to work with. There is definitely potential waiting for competent leaders to grab and put to good use. The compensation and benefits are decent, and I'm told they go beyond what's common or average in some of the locations.

Cons

In recent years, the company lacked focus. There have been a lot of seemingly arbitrary initiatives that didn't have clear leadership or accountability. As a result, many of them were later scrapped or just fizzled out. There have been some improvements in this regard more recently (2018). Until recently, there wasn't enough emphasis on employee development and knowledge sharing. You are merely expected to know whatever you need to do your job, there isn't much incentive for employees to strive for excellence, or to go beyond the scope of their everyday duties. The company has a problem with technology. They use a large number of poorly integrated tools, which leads to a lot of manual work, frustration and overheads. Some of the tools are clearly inadequate and/or outdated. There seem to be initiatives in place addressing at this now. It remains to be seen how successful they are.
