Pros

Only pro about working at Lush is the big 50% discount and their products in general, but I am contemplating if I even want to continue supporting this company.

Cons

You will have floor leaders boss you around all day for no reason and management allows that to happen. Unless you want to feel like you're working at a daycare, don't work for Lush. Floor leaders do not do their job at all but make yours harder by constantly interrogating you about pointless specifics. Always have to be careful not to offend the floor leaders or else they will take it to management (who favours them and lets them get away with their actions). Do not think about being promoted if you are a reasonable person. Being honest will not get you far at Lush because they will somehow take it as disrespect. Work culture revolves around being toxic-positive. Pre-school playground environment. Would not recommend this to people looking for a good job. Look anywhere else and you will find something better guaranteed. Did not gain anything from this experience except for disappointment, disbelief, and a heavy dose of realization.

Pros

50% uncapped discount on almost all products. Free products which were out of date/broken Extensive training for product knowledge Fun training activities which made learning more enjoyable Fun interactions with customers

Cons

There was a lot of pressure to upsell as much as possible, but at times this was made difficult. You would be told to try sell X amount of shower gels and then be moved to the other side of the store. Targets were never strict but you wouldn't be looked on favourably if you weren't doing well. Because of individual targets we had to set, there was a lot of competition between staff which made quite an uncomfortable environment as everyone was just trying to do well. Management were very pushy about what to say to customers, and would hover over you to correct you when the customer had left. I was reprimanded for asking customers 'how are you' to begin consultations. Even if you were trying to do everything right you were constantly getting negative feedback When you were put in a quiet area of the store you would usually clean, tidy and organise those products, but at times we were also reprimanded for doing this, but were given nothing else to do. You always had to look busy for customers even when the shop was dead, but there wasn't much you could actually do to stay busy. There was a clear hierarchy between temp staff and permanent staff, and the permanent staff would be allowed to get away with a lot of things the temps were given in trouble for. The company champions sustainability but a lot of their in store practices are not sustainable
