Unrealistic targets, no HEART

Pros

Remote work flexibility, nothing else

Cons

Unrealistic KPI’s. No proper onboarding or training about the role. You’re pushed to perform in the first 8 weeks and although they tell you it’s okay if you don’t, but the truth is it is actually not. Never thought I would see a psychotherapist in my life as I am a strong person who can handle whatever life throws at me but the job really pushed me to the edge and I had to see a counsellor. This is part of your benefit package and many other colleagues in my team had already consulted with the psychotherapist. Everyone shows they care but deep down most people genuinely don’t care(only care about metrics). CSAT(100) is the most useless metric you would be beating yourself up for in CS because the Support always gets the brunt for other divisions even though we are just helping them. No one understands the CRM 100% not the customers or service reps themselves. There is no one to help you as they are dealing with their own burnouts. You not only have to be good at your job but be active on slack, plan team outings, team meetings, set aside to show you’re helping others just to get in the mangers good books(while maintaining your metrics). I am a happier person now after leaving HS( it was my dream career to work here at one point). I support people more now at work as I understand how it feels to be waiting for someone to seek help when you’re unsure about anything. I have received the best feedback from my manager in my current role which I could never expect from my manager at HS. Remember, you are alone here, learn to swim or sink. Avoid the company unless you have no choice. You’ll be better off in another company even with less pay than at HubSpot where it’s all about numbers. The worst part is that the company was hiring for the same roles, only weeks after laying off people in those roles.

Pros

The people are lovely and my direct manager is always willing to provide coaching and feedback.

Cons

Unfortunately I have felt totally misled from my interview process about management styles, culture and expectations. I am not new to fast paced SaaS sales environment but working at Hubspot was something else. The micromanagement around your day (how you spend each hour, how many activities you have completed) made me feel like a cog in a machine. There's an attempt to provide solid onboarding but a HUGE amount of staff leave during probation - either a choice of their own or are let go. Reps that have been at Hubspot longer are successful at hitting quota from relationships they have nurtured over the past 12 months , there seems to be little consideration into this with new reps. I have noticed the rate at which female reps are leaving is significantly higher than male reps. Comments were made by managers that although they 'cant tell me to work longer, it might be a good idea to spend my evenings finding new sales opportunities or reviewing calls'. Seeing new staff leave so soon is a clear indication of how things are going. The burnout here has been unlike anywhere else I have worked. Culture was key to my questions I asked during my hiring process and I was constantly told that it was a collaborative environment, and a place where people succeed and grow. Reps don't want to share with others their successes on how they their prospects out of fear of losing their edge. I've seen a huge amount of reps deactivated on slack overnight during their first 12 months. It creates a culture of fear amongst new hires and makes people worry about being able to keep a job during a cost of living crisis rather than focusing on just getting the job done.

Pros

Unlimited PTO (as long as you have done enough tickets for the month) Good benefits Great People.

Cons

Things just keep getting harder. We are building a high performance culture and just don't have the support needed for this. It is causing so much burn out. Biggest issue for me is growth. They put barriers in place to prevent growth. If you get a sometimes meets expectations on a performance review you can not apply for internal positions for 6 months. Even if the role has nothing to do with the internal position. Even if the hiring manager doesn't care. In my case, I am not the best Customer Service rep, I'm finally hitting metrics but because I struggle with customer service I can't apply for a software dev job even though the skills are completely different. To me this is judging a fish on its ability to climb. Help people get to positions that their skill sets allow them to succeed. I want to like my job and I used to love it here. If management would be willing to work with me this would be a different story but they won't do anything. I know our Chief People officer reads these, if you want to help say the word and I will reach out.

Hi sorry to hear this, and yes I absolutely do care and want to help. We do require people to be in good standing in their current role to apply for others--someone asked me a question about it on the high performance wiki and I answered it directly. The goal is to be fair and thoughtful across the board on our policy and approach. I get that it can feel unfair if you don't like your current role, but we don't require people to be the best in their team or even a high rating scale, just meeting expectations. It sounds like you're now hitting your metrics--that's the ticket to interviewing for roles within our other internal teams. I hope this helps clarify and if you have another direct question happy to answer it as best I can on email. -Katie
