Pros

very friendly people who are supportive and tend to be a give give culture. several opportunities abroad in particularly in japan, but more on a business trip bases than a permanent one rapidly growing company in the rail industry

Cons

come in with a good salary negotiated because it will be hard to renegotiate once in. many new recruits means that structure is unclear

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It is good to hear you are you are having great experience at Hitachi Rail Europe. Due to the rapid growth of our company, at times, we need to adapt our structure to accommodate changes to the demands in resources. Our salaries are reviewed on a continuous basis to ensure that they’re competitive with current market values and are subject to annual review in line with inflation.

Pros

Working for Hitachi looks good on your CV aside from that, nothing positive to say... even the offices are depressing but they are high enough to ensure death if you jumped

Cons

Working for Hitachi has been a dispiriting experience during which, in spite of continually being told that we're all in it together, I personally have struggled to go in to work every day without feeling an overwhelming urge to throw myself out of the nearest window by around 4pm as I am continually overstretched and demoralised. I feel any likelihood of my being treated with a modicum of anything even vaguely close to the company value of respect moving further and further away as I am treated, not like someone with many years experience, but instead like a cross between a waiter and office junior who's primary job is to be neither seen nor heard. The staff is comprised of a large contingent of people who are overpaid and significantly under qualified to be employed in the roles they are in but are allowed to rule the roost based on length of service alone. So any change will be impossible to implement... if you have any lofty ideas of doing this, you should probably keep walking. If you are one of the MD's favourites though you'll get a pass on everything and will love every minute there

Firstly I would like to thank you for your feedback. We are really sorry that you feel this way about your experience at Hitachi Rail. This certainly does not fit in with the values that we work with and advocate, as Respect is at the core of our values. As HR Director I take very seriously any feedback from colleagues. It would have been good to have the opportunity to listen to you and discuss in person. This would have enabled us to identify any underlying issues and take action. This is the way I personally work and I would encourage colleagues across the Hitachi Rail Europe business to be open and honest about their concerns and feelings. It is important to note that we are currently going through a period of rapid growth due to our recent successes and during this phase I clearly recognise there will be aspects of our organisation that require development and improvement; and whilst I don’t know the detail of your situation maybe you were unfortunate to experience some symptoms of these growing pains. That being said this really is an exciting place to work, yes challenging at times but very rewarding. On the whole colleagues tell me they are stretched within their roles, that they recognise the challenge and the opportunities, that they find colleagues and managers to be open and friendly and that in general they enjoy their experience. Clearly I am disappointed that this was not your experience. I truly believe in an open door policy and that transparency, openness as and honesty are critical to our success so if you do want to get in touch to talk personally to me personally I would welcome your comments.

The managers are really supportive and look after the team well. They are willing to support and invest money on their staff for career progression and often give good advice and feedback.

Cons

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear you are having a good experience at Hitachi Rail and that your managers are supportive. We’re winning new contracts and expanding our horizons and, with that kind of rapid growth, things can get busy. Sometimes this means flexing by working longer hours but this should be the exception and not something we’d encourage as routine.
