So much potential being wasted

Pros

It's a genuinely good product and our customers love us. Working with our customers is one of the part parts of the job, seeing them grow and achieve because of our work, shouting about us at events and hearing them be so passionate about what we enable them to do is really great. It's also nice to believe in a technology and trust the path the CEO is paving, it could be an exciting time if they get it right.

Cons

Unfortunately, there are quite a few! There's some really strange internal politics which stops some really intelligent people be able to do their jobs. There are so many blockers and there's no one really owning HR or any internal promotions/training/upskilling etc. It really feels like there is no room for growth and a lot of people feel very stagnant in their roles. There's no real promotion schedule or even pay increases (in line with inflation etc. doesn't exist), everything feels like such effort when you question it too. Management and leadership is a problem, no one is willing to go out of their way to support you and you do feel alone in your issues. Some teams seem very stuck in their ways and make comments which I honestly do not think should be accepted but are hard to complain about. They set goals in New York that just don't leak down to the local offices, Europe is a weird place to be and London kind of feels on it's own. The global values certainly do not reflect my experience.

Thank you for this feedback. We're sorry to read that you feel there's no room for growth. Internal development and upskilling are very much valued at Contentsquare. Linked to our internal mobility policy, a training has been launched to ensure all stakeholders are properly equipped to go through an internal mobility. The internal and external learning tools, coaching, and mentorship programs are part of the initiatives put in place to help employees grow. The career framework also helps understand the different levels and what can be expected for a promotion. In addition to the annual review, the quarterly reviews are also moments to leverage to discuss career growth. Besides your manager, you can reach out to your PBP and the L&D team for more details and support if you feel stuck in your development. Please contact your People Business Partner ASAP to have a confidential conversation regarding the inappropriate comments. CS does not tolerate or accept offensive or inappropriate comments in the workplace.

Once a great workplace, now in decline

Pros

The company was a great place to work when I joined, full of potential and great people on the team. The few who remain are now looking for new jobs.

Cons

The company went downhill after announcing the merger of Hotjar and Heap, which destroyed the company culture across all three companies and led to massive layoffs and a complete restructuring. While layoffs are sometimes unavoidable, management's approach was harsh and unfair to current employees. In Germany, many irregular layoffs required legal action (as far as I know, the company has been sued about 8 times, with more cases to come). Management misled employees about the supposed benefits of new roles, treating people dismissively and expecting blind trust, even after firing half the team. HR was unhelpful during the layoffs and instead focused on matters that were irrelevant, showing little concern for those losing their jobs. Be cautious about the German team's direction, as it is being managed by people in Amsterdam with lack of feelings who play favorites and promote only those loyal to them.

Thank you for your feedback. Preserving the existing culture that each entity had before a merge is always difficult. We hope to recognize the best practices from each company’s culture and weave them into the fabric of our culture at Contentsquare. We did make the tough decision to reduce our workforce back in January, however, the RIF was a strategic move aimed at ensuring the company’s sustainability and long-term financial health. We are sorry to read you did not feel supported by management or the People team during that trying time. As we navigate through growth, we understand the challenges that come with scaling, and we're dedicated to supporting our employees through these transitions. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to evolve and improve.

Pros

- Great learning opportunities and strong mentorship from my manager. - Enjoyed managing talented teams. - Positive collaboration with peers across different R&D locations. - Appreciated the company's commitment to a diverse workforce.

Cons

- Persistent influence of a strong French company culture. - Despite commitments to DE&I, career progression for non-French employees felt limited with a lack of access to decision-making roles. - Senior engineering managers had limited power to make influential decisions. - Some communication barriers due to a preference for French language discussions. - Significant gender imbalance in R&D teams.

Thank you for this review. We're glad to read you experienced positive dynamics with your manager and colleagues. As you mentioned, Contentsquare is committed to building a diverse workforce. The DEI team is working on projects to ensure it. However, we know the current situation is not perfect. Our inclusive values are not yet fully represented when looking at our workforce, such as the R&D gender imbalance, but it is what we work hard on and strive towards. We will raise your feedback on the French language barrier and limited decision-making for Engineering Managers.
