Frustrating place to work for ambitious and hard working employees

Pros

Discount, bragging rights, nice view from the 44th floor

Cons

Moving up is not based on performance but on brown nosing the right people. Skills, expertise and background are not used in the appropriate way to benefit both the company and employee. There is no trust and it is not an open environment to learn and be exposed to decision making. There is a lot of talk and no action... things are said to get better, but time moves veryyy slow at Chanel. I would recommend this environment for someone who is already established and moving into a director level or above and not for anyone looking to grow their career.

Pros

The discounts at the company store on perfume, makeup and treatment products is great. The vacation and sick time is very good. The health benefits are pretty good.

Cons

The accounting department is completely toxic. Management has created an enviroment of brown nosing and back stabbing. There is no incentive to excel at your job because if you are not one of the teacher's pets you will not be recognized for your efforts. The favortism is so blatant and nothing is done about it even though Human Resources is well aware of the problems. The turnover rate is very high, there were a few years when we could barely keep anyone there for more than a year. There is also a caste system in place at Chanel where management has different (better) health benefits and just in general a "regular" employee is considered "less important" than those who managed to brown nose their way to the top.

Unstable and Toxic

Pros

Good benefits, nice employee discounts, bragging rights, nice balance between work and personal life, 401K and pension plan and beautiful offices.

Cons

Toxic environment, morale is low, poor communication between management, difficult for junior and lower level employees to get ahead, proper credit not given to job well done, some senior management seems to get off on mistreating subordinates, constant restructuring by president causing people to feel pressured or on edge, people are treated like commodities, technologically behind, poor motivation and incentives, lower salaries even for industry standards, obvious caste system, blatant favoritism and not any sort of training ever, even when people ask for it.
