Pros

Good final salary pension scheme. Still some good colleagues within the business. Good induction period for managers which is 12 weeks.

Cons

Ruthless company, if your face doesn't fit good luck, staff are weeded out by health and safety auditors that come in and review cameras to see if anyone has breached any. Not wearing a high vis in a warehouse sacked. Not correctly checking a pin in a racking unit, sacked. Etc As for the urealistic budgets you are supposed to achieve, forget it. If you don't hit them look out for your RGM sneaking around making notes and slagging you off to the GM.

Pros

Good relationship with other colleagues Paid for Christmas parties

Cons

I've had personal experience and know of the experience of my colleagues/friends in not just my own store but in another, where the management have been making false allegations against staff because they either don't like them or just want to get shot of them. One supervisor was overheard saying "I'm getting rid of her" about one colleague who worked her butt off and rode in on 2 buses for 2 1/2 hours each morning! There are too many managers with little experience who treat everyone and the job like a joke. Apparently the protocol is to get the most immature person to become a manager. They have a real problem with anyone who is part time, they often leave you out of important meetings and don't tell you anything important until it's too late. They also have a problem promoting or moving anyone who is part time. Personally I was well trained on an area of the store and was more than competent and had the knowledge. I was always sought out when overtime was needed or if they were short on staff. I was told for a year I would be moved to the department but instead they employed 5 newcomers (part time and full time) on seperate occasions- each new one would come when the other left or was fired for being "incompetent". I was told the reason was because I couldn't do enough hours (yet it was fine for them to employ someone new to do the same/less hours) I've had a manager forge my signature on a contract - I considered taking legal action I was told to reduce my hours because I wasn't needed in past closing time, only to find the next week that my hours were given to another member of staff You get next to no support from managers who are often too busy chatting in their office AS A COMPANY NOT JUST A PARTICULAE STORE: They have decided that they want to do a £10 million revamp on some stores across the uk (mine included), but are paying for it by taking the wages of its staff. We used to have incentives to work on bank holidays and Sunday's Called time and half or double pay depending on how long you'd worked there for. They are now scrapping this and other benefits such as zone allowance that pays for travel (as most b&qs Are not near residential areas). Although raising the wage by 30 p the average loss to earnings for people who work on a Sunday equates to hundreds. We don't get paid enough anyway to deal with the rubbish we have to put up with, yet they take more from us. You are always Called to do overtime whenever you aren't working and made to feel guilty if you can't take it Basically to sum it all up you are a pawn in b&q's big money grabbing game!!!

Pros

Good benefits, great holidays leave , good pay for retail

Cons

To get acknowledged you have to do as I say and not as I do, there is never any room for human error it's always about being disciplined, there is no honesty unless you are part of a clique and then get spoken about behind your back, if you have family working there as senior managers you are untouchable, no consistency in management process style everyday is a game, and lastly if you keep your head down your a sitting duck target! Managers don't know the systems at basic level so it puts more pressure on others, there is no work life balance unless your face fits, you are forced to call a feedback survey and walked through the questions so that you have to press the highest number, no matter what store you go to it's always the same!
