Great people with poor management
Pros
Amazing bonus structure - getting a monthly bonus and very generous incentives. They hire the best and nicest people, overwhelmingly fun, educated, smart and ambitious young professionals. Really generous with company perks - including snacks, team events and company away days!
Cons
For all graduates considering working at AlphaSights - this is not a consultancy or investment company, the role they hire for is entirely sales! Do not be sold the idea this firm has any career prospects into consulting, PE or investment companies - it does not and in fact has poor career prospects in contrast to other similar roles. The other major issue is the company does not hire managers externally, so the management are extremely low quality (average age of 25/26) and lack the maturity, experience and business acumen to offer any real career guidance or training. The more senior management are also poor, lacking any real vision or connection with their teams. In essence, this is not a company you will learn a lot of skills from - it’s management are too junior and inexperienced to offer this. Also, the role is very repetitive and boring, with constant cold calling, LinkedIn Sales Navigator scrolling and emailing people who are not pleasant and working with clients who do not care about you. This may have been specific to my team, but my consensus was this was a more widespread belief. Finally, this is by far one of the least diverse companies I have worked for in London. If you want a diverse work place with a large array of BAME or LGBT colleagues, this is not the company for you. The firm hires extremely wealthy, well off, largely white Europeans who can speak several languages.
