Pros

Used to be a good company 10+ years ago and some very good experienced specialists here, however most have been driven out or RIFed by an unpleasant culture at certain levels only looking out for themselves.

Cons

Toxic blame culture that rewards employees who often do the least and punishes those who work hard to change what’s not working. Your entire success is at your manager’s discretion and there are some very poor lifers who have survived and been promoted simply for going along to get along and not doing the right thing. Revolving door with exceptionally high turnover because of poor pay, cheap benefits and a clear tolerance and preference of management for ‘yes people’ however lazy or incompetent they may be at their jobs. Constant change initiatives and pivots for the sake of change, to cut employee numbers, and/or to make certain leaders justify their existence, even when not needed. This often causes chaos at lower levels with not enough staff to perform the jobs leaving those left behind overburdened and without any work/life balance. Outdated, management culture and approach. “You’re lucky to have a job”, "Get on with it", “Take it or leave it” approach for past years. Many people did just that leaving a deficit of experience and knowledge in many areas. HR policy consistently reinforces the top-down hierarchical culture rather than supporting employees who need it at middle and lower levels. Outdated technology and unnecessary, overly bureaucratic hierarchical structure which makes getting even often simple tasks done a painful and drawn out process.

A company in decline

Pros

It was a very stable source of income.

Cons

Where to begin... I could literally write a book, and ADP would be the textbook example of a company that has high aspirations but sabotages itself at every step of the way in attempting to achieve such lofty goals. For starters - management is unqualified. There is no other way to state it - none of them have the training, the skill set, nor the ability to actually lead a team, yet they self reference themselves as "leadership team" every chance they get. Leadership is a skill that you either have or you don't, and no amount of stating it will change that fact. ADP managers are not leaders, plain and simple. The "Circuit City" effect - this is all too real now given the events of the past few years. ADP started by offering a VERP to people 55 and over back in 2018, and WAY more people chose that option than they anticipated. This left them with a dearth of qualified personnel in very key areas of the company. Since then, there have been numerous layoffs ridding themselves of yet more highly qualified SMEs, all in the name of saving some coin. At the end of the day, everyone now sees that the company has entered what can only be described as a death spiral - where the only personnel left are unqualified, unmotivated, depressed, apathetic robots doing the bidding of their unqualified managerial superiors.

NOT a STRATEGIC role

Pros

some flexibility, not much else

Cons

Terrible culture Terrible leadership Not a true HR partner job; majority of your time is spent apologizing for other depts mistakes No true partnership with other departments Culture of being mediocre in the Aurora office It was said in training to make sure you are "nice" to everyone in the company (ie, don't hold them accountable for not answering client concerns or taking months to do so) or else they won't pick up the phone or answer your email You are the whipping post for clients; consistently apologizing when others mess up or others don't answer emails Every process is incredibly complicated and time consuming Left hand doesn't know what the right is doing and basically doesn't care Onboarding is by far the worst I've ever had You are basically on your own trying to learn the business HRBP's come and go so quickly that clients are frustrated When voicing concerns and reporting poor leadership, inappropriate behavior, bullying by your immediate manager, you're ignored by upper management and the behavior is allowed to go on. Manager was more worried about us sharing personal information than she was in getting us the tools and training and support to do our jobs. She took great offense to those who only wanted to do their job instead of being BFF's and sharing our personal info with her
