Pros

Walmart is the largest privately held company in the world which means the things you do at Walmart can have major impact. It is very exciting to see projects you've been personally involved with scale quickly to serve hundreds of millions of customers across thousands of stores.

Cons

Walmart's stated strategy is currently to win in "Digital to Physical". In other words, to leverage its physical stores and supply chain with it's online assets to win customers loyalty. Is it working? Not by a long shot.

Pros

The people I worked with were generally friendly, and I was able to move up quickly through the company ladder.

Cons

The push from upper mgt and corporate to always keep an eye on the bottom line and not plan for unforeseen issues at store level put a huge burden on the individual associates. I tried to be a buffer between them, but it got to bad that I ended up taking time off. I'm talking about asking 2 employees to do a job that required 8 employees and asking those two to complete it in the same timeframe.

Pros

Good work life balance sometimes, Scale of Data, Challenging problems to solve in some teams

Cons

politics.. US teams generally do all the good work. Scale of the data is huge but the infrastructure is horrible. It takes ages to run simple MR jobs. Lack of good platform. No effort to retain good employees. They are interested in hiring new folks with lesser talent. There is no guarantee that you will get your variable component especially at higher levels
