Pros
You get free food if you work at least 4 hours. The Subway I worked at had excellent owners who really cared about the well-being of the employees, and were very good about giving time off. I became very ill in September of 2015, and the owners had no problem letting me stay home until I got better. I worked part time for most of my time there (ended with full-time hours) and I was getting around 30 hours a week. If you show commitment and good work habits you'll get more hours. Co-workers were mostly nice. February 2017 I transferred to another store with the same owners, where I got full-time hours being an opener. Shortly after I was made a supervisor and my pay increased to 12.25 an hour.
Cons
Gossipy environment. When you work in a mall you start to get to know people from other shops and you start hearing rumours, etc... The general manager didn't seem to like having fun and was very serious about everything. She picked favourites. Being an opener is very stressful since you have to multi-task and do several tasks at the same time. The store I moved to was in a Home Depot. It was a very slow store (which is not a bad thing to me), but that meant that I was by myself most of the time, so it got lonely sometimes. You never know if the owners are going to sell the store. When I moved to the other location to open, I had no idea that the store was going to be sold, and if I did I wouldn't have moved there in the first place. And there's no guarantee that you'll keep your job if that happens. They don't offer any health benefits to regular employees, only managers. Not much room for growth. The only reason I was made a shift supervisor was because there was no store manager and some sort of authority figure was needed.
