Pros

Great franchisees, team members in store and work colleagues will get you through your month..barely

Cons

Easily the most toxic place I’ve ever worked, poison from the top down picking up the pieces from the incompetency of others. Outrageous orders giving from America to the uk and passed down to us. Franchisees work so hard are completely broken by the system but we have to be seen to try and increase sales and “protect the brand” Mentally and physically draining constantly overworked with packed schedules if this issue is raised we are then told we are bad at time management. Over 50 hours a week is the very minimum requirement to do your job on a weekly basis we are contracted for 39 with time in lieu for anything over however this is not adhered to by the office and we receive no time for excess hours worked. You are expected to be contactable by phone and email 8-8 Monday - Friday and 9-6 on weekends. You will get emailed late at night and on weekends all which have to be replied or actioned in some form lead to anxiety and sleepless nights. They do not include travel as part of work even though you are a FIELD consultant and by law your vehicle is considered your work place. Very petty childish behaviour from management treat you like dirt very petty fines for general wear and tear on equipment/vehicles they illegally withhold your pay cheque and keep your holiday entitlement. If I respected anyone I would not recommend this job for them as it is the most toxic environment you could imagine. Very high staff turnover on average somebody leaves every 3 months or they bully you and increase your work load to make you quit if they are not happy with your performance. On passing probation they require 3 months notice which leave you practically unemployable due to excessive length.

A 5-Year Slide into Terrible at HQ

Pros

You get free breakfast and lunch, and (finally) get Black Friday as a paid holiday.

Cons

Subway has been falling down the stairs - in consumers' minds and with employee treatment - for 5 years straight. Founder passed away and would be absolutely sickened by the absentee mgmt. style of his sister (now CEO), and at the performance (franchisees bleeding money) of the amazing brand he built from scratch. When I started in 2000, this company valued its employees, cared about their career success and allowed a work/life balance. From 2012 and after, the company paid way more lip service to valuing/caring for employees, but all of its actions said - you're a number, you don't exist outside here. Example: the company tried to achieve "Great Places to Work" status via anon. employee surveys, but fell short. Rather than making it a great place to work, they strong-armed Directors into having their people all retake it and give good ratings.

Pros

The manager was a nice guy, but that was it. his hands were tied regarding raises, job security (if a 'secret shopper' came and you put more then 6 black olives, tomatoes, banana peppers etc) on a sub you would be fired on the spot. the only way we could get a raise is if the store made higher sales, regardless of your quality as an employee

Cons

I had to work the dinner rush all by myself, there was literally a line out the door for hours. the only way we could get a raise is if the store made higher sales, regardless of your quality as an employee, so I was stuck with minimum wage indefinitely. If you failed to say 'welcome to subway' within 3 seconds of a customer walking in you could get written up, if that happened to a secret shopper you would get fired. this job was the worst.
