Pros
excellent environment, great staff, excellent customers to serve. The atmosphere is excellent especially for people looking for a first time job, because it is not a generic fast food place, but is still easy enough to learn with practice. Starbucks can also be an excellent teacher of time management, as it is critical to balance customer service, friendly conversation and speed of service. An excellent thing about Starbucks is that unlike franchises, you can work at any US location immediately, need extra cash while on vacation, pick up a shift at the local Starbucks! Tips are also awesome, as they are paid in cash weekly.
Cons
pay could use a boost, right now it is only a few cents above minimum wage, and upward movement is severely restricted due to the economic crisis. In general chances to move up might require you to transfer to a different Starbucks location, so it really depends on how badly you want to move up. A Starbucks with a drive thru can be very stressful and several key positions require excellent multitasking abilities. Newer employees cannot work fast enough to handle demand and as such it can create a strained work environment prone to irritation and aggravation by fellow employees.
