Pros

excellent environment, great staff, excellent customers to serve. The atmosphere is excellent especially for people looking for a first time job, because it is not a generic fast food place, but is still easy enough to learn with practice. Starbucks can also be an excellent teacher of time management, as it is critical to balance customer service, friendly conversation and speed of service. An excellent thing about Starbucks is that unlike franchises, you can work at any US location immediately, need extra cash while on vacation, pick up a shift at the local Starbucks! Tips are also awesome, as they are paid in cash weekly.

Cons

pay could use a boost, right now it is only a few cents above minimum wage, and upward movement is severely restricted due to the economic crisis. In general chances to move up might require you to transfer to a different Starbucks location, so it really depends on how badly you want to move up. A Starbucks with a drive thru can be very stressful and several key positions require excellent multitasking abilities. Newer employees cannot work fast enough to handle demand and as such it can create a strained work environment prone to irritation and aggravation by fellow employees.

Pros

The flexibility in hours and the ability to work around school schedules. They also offer pretty good benefits for part time people as well as full timer employees, which is nice. If you enjoy coffee, it is also a great environemtn because you get unlimited amounts while on the clock and great discounts even when you are not working.

Cons

The early hours, and more recently the cutting of labor. There is the same amount of stuff to get done, but with half the amount of staff as of lately. The pay is not great for the skill set and amount of knowledge that has to be mastered for the job.

Pros

Amazing coroporation with a high level of corporate social responsibility. It provides not only coffee, but a third place environment and cares for it's partners(employees) and neighbourhoods which they do business. There are continually opportunities to shine and show one's dedication towards their work, and Starbucks has much infrastructure in place to support personal growth and development. During my duration with the company, I felt complete respect for the brand and environment which Howard has created, and enjoyed coming to work to recreate his dream. I would highly recommend this to anyone seeking to work in a postive retail environment.

Cons

Early mornings and late nights.
