Pros

Company is very profitable. Lots of opportunity to work on new projects. Very progressive with technology. Decent amount of free product.

Cons

Management was completely isolated from the people who do the work. Pet projects were rammed through without regard for readiness or capacity. There was zero work life balance. Leadership frequently talked out of both sides of their mouth.. e.g. family is important, so please attend these multiple weekend meetings and respond to all emails no matter what time of day. Meetings frequently scheduled over lunch hours with no food provided. The environment was a total pressure cooker with many people very unhappy

Pros

- Great work/life balence. Working nights and weekends outside of checking email was rare. - Brand recognition and cache - amazing bonus and 20 vacation days

Cons

- base salary is low and they blame it on the industry. Not acceptable in Bay Area especially - leadership is not inspiring or visionary - very political and very relationship driven - terrible career pathing/opps - HQ office is dated, crowded and has no meeting space. - incompetent HR - employees are typically not empowered

Pros

I really enjoyed working at Sephora. There's constant opportunity for learning and growth in a range of fields: artistry, customer service, sales, etc. and good opportunity for upward movement in the company. Whether you come in with a specialization or not, management and education do a good job of directing and training their employees to help you achieve your personal goals with the company.

Cons

Pay is low compared to what other makeup artists make in the industry. There is also an entire new vocabulary you will have to learn when starting, which can be a bit daunting (i.e. sales floor is the "stage", customers are "clients", departments are "worlds", etc.). Due to high internal theft in the company, management can be a bit intense about employee conduct with personal cosmetic items- ex: all makeup items brought in must be scribed with employee #, in a clear bag, etc. (though some of this is standard practice in cosmetics retail).
