Pros

-lots of free merchandise -decent discount -flexibility when it comes to schedule

Cons

-obviously this depends on the store, but generally the management causes lots of issues -management is passive aggressive -little to no raises -if you’re looking to grow within the company, there are not many opportunities -no commission. the entire “team” bonuses together based on whether or not you exceed your stores sales goal. this leads to a good hand-full of other co-workers taking advantage of this system and doing the bare minimum while other employees do the bulk of the selling. -if you’re good at your job, be prepared to be forced into picking up the slack of your less efficient co-workers -management definitely chooses “favorites”

Pros

-Getting to work with a variety of clients -Continuously improving artistry skills -Gaining extensive product knowledge -Working with a group of people with similar interests -Getting to know regular clients/ building rapport -Making a difference in peoples life. Working with makeup may seem very simple, but you meet people with a lot of insecurities, and relating to them, letting them know we all have insecurities, regardless of how glamorous we look while we're on stage.

Cons

-Blatant favoritism: Even though you work your hardest and make it known to leadership that you would like to work on getting an elevated role... It doesn't really matter, they will give it to the people they like most. I have spoken to other cast members who do not want elevated roles, and make that known... yet they get to go to training and I am stuck doing colour matches all day. I have even inquired about new, upcoming positions and I was given false information. When I followed up with my leads, I was told the application sheet for the position was filled. They never even put my name on the list, they put who they want on it, and put me on the list for a position that I told leadership I did not want. Work/Life Balance: Doesn't exist for me... I moved out of town months ago. Before I even asked for a transfer, I was told that no store was taking transfers. I travel 60KMs (Without a vehicle) just to get to work and spend more than half of my income on transportation. We have had people transfer to our store and from our store, and everyone makes it seems so easy, yet... I'm stuck travelling a total of 5 hours a day to get to and from work. It's stressful and tiring and no one seems to care to do anything about it.

Pros

Flexible hours and many positions available.

Cons

They give 20% off for employees but then add it as income to be taxes later on on your w2. They count it as a gift so you’ll have to pay taxes on money that you’ve earned from them that you’ve already paid taxes on. Also, similar jobs in the same area pay living wages, while Sephora pays close to minimum wage. Over 10 years of service, and you can expect to be paid less than $20 an hour doing facials and makeovers. The way that they fool other companies to make them think that they have very few turn over rates, is they keep you on as an employee once a month so that it doesn’t look like tons of people are quitting. Which they are. They have absolutely no room for employees to rest or break. Small 10x15 areas with two cafe tables and high stools with no backs for support lined up in front of lockers that people need to get into to get their belongings. So you’re constantly having to get up and move out of their way.
