I got paid $11 an hour but took the job in spite of that for the benefits.

Pros

You can be gone about 20% of the time if you use your PTO and are an employee in good standing. The absenteeism was quite high especially on Fridays and Mondays.

Cons

The pay was abysmal. Even if you were a college graduate you started out at $11 an hour and after a 2 week training program in Rochester you still only were raised to $12 an hour. They should pay their employees a living wage because their services are very expensive to the customers. At least that's what the customers claimed. Also the employee turnover was quite high. Besides that they reassigned customers to different payroll specialists kind of often and the customers did not like that.

Pros

Stable company. Decent benefits. As of recent have good access to technology, tools, and equipment.

Cons

I agree with a couple of other reviews. The software development side of the house is a mess. Development techniques are dated and produce software built for the 1980's. It's managed poorly. If you work in test you sit around idle most of the time and then for one week everything is a crisis. There are too many managers and leaders who cannot get out of the past. There are a lot of good developers and even more bad ones. It takes us 5 times as many programmers to create code that's substandard and not up to the times. Expect to either spend your time twiddling your thumbs or in a crisis being sworn and yelled at by irrational leaders who would never survive in a modern software development organization. If you want to work in IT, work in an area outside of software development and testing. There is so much bureaucracy and process here that it slows down everything. It's impossible to do anything without it getting embroiled in committee. When we complain about process, they even create process to eradicate process. Most of our management lives in meetings and comes out of them with little or nothing to show except more ways to inhibit real work

Pros

You could move up in pay somewhat quickly. The people that I met were GREAT, I made some lifelong friends.

Cons

Very stressful most people that worked there had about 100 clients and would also have to answer calls in the queue. They would go back on their word when it came to promotions, I knew people that were promoted and made less in that position than people that were hired off the street because apparently there is a rule that no one is allowed more than a dollar increase. So going from Data Entry where the pay was $11 people were only allowed to go to $12 when outsiders that were hired made $13 to $14. Most people I knew were on anti-anxiety medication that was prescribed to them after working at PayChex.
