Pros

It is a large company that makes it easy to move around and grow. The leadership is very accessible and open. The company really cares about its employees and they try to make a positive impact on the world. The benefits are good and people are generally happy to be working at Marsh. They always get feedback from employees and the company is quick to change things that aren't working. They also innovate often to stay at the forefront of the industry.

Cons

The technology can be a little outdated. There are systems for everything, but not all the systems work well together.

Pros

Colleagues are knowledgeable and helpful. Opportunity to work with world class clients. Brand recognition is unparalleled in the industry. Pension and 401(k) is rare in corporate America nowadays.

Cons

Employee turnover is out of control. It seems every week someone I work with resigns. This is due to increased workload, stagnant salaries and a sense that the company is not sharing its good fortune with the folks who produce it. Worse still is the fact that these positions often go unfilled, which creates a vicious cycle. There's a crop of baby boomers that seem to be counting the days until retirement. Promotions are hard to come by.

Pros

Attracts very good people in the NYC office.

Cons

Worked in FINPRO for 8 years after living in NY and working for many insurance ops over 23 years in NYC including AIG. Honestly Marsh was the worst experience of my career. There is absolutely no work life balance. Be prepared to respond to your last email at 11pm and your first email at 7am seven days a week. Prepare to forfeit your vacation. If you are fresh out of college work there for one year to have it on your resume. Believe me listen to the old timers there in their conversations in the elevator. They are miserable but trapped due to age.
