Pros

1) There are Lockheed Martin locations through out US and Internationally. If willing to move from Bay Area, there are a lot of growth/job opportunities. 2)Match 401K 3) Various programs at the Sunnyvale facility. Although, over time programs have ended, which decreased programs at this facility. Each program had different management styles. Which is a pro and con 4) Received a base salary adjustment every year, based on performance 5) Depending on your manager, there is life/work balance. This is a pro and con.

Cons

1) Sunnyvale location is downsizing. Due to less overhead expense, most new effort is being proposed to be completed on the East Coast or Denver. Many of the existing programs have transitioned out of California. 2) As programs are ending, there are less opportunities at the Sunnyvale location. 3) Very political. Company allows Senior management to degrade employees with no repercussion. Some programs do not enforce inclusion. 4) Health benefits have become more and more unfavorable over the years. I knew employees that had left the company because the medication required for their illness was no longer covered. Based on reduction of benefit coverage, I payed more and more out of pocket every year. 5)I had experienced great managers and unfortunately awful ones. Unfortunately, nothing is done to fix the awful ones since there is a lot of politics at the company. 6)If you are willing to relocate out of California because the location is downsizing, the Sunnyvale location is for you.

Pros

I work with very intelligent, and even very emotionally intelligent people.

Cons

Every aspect of corporate life that exists, exists at Lockheed. As an employee, you’re inundated with rules and red tape, political bs, and Lockheed demands and expects employees to go above and beyond yet Lockheed won’t do the same for you. It’s a great place to work for the ambitious corporate sheep. For the free thinker, the value adder, the person that asks “why?”, this is not the place for you. Common sense and logic fail here. Instead, inundation via non-value added process and meetings rules all. Lockheed does a great job obtaining nee talent, yet does a terrible job at retaining that talent. This was authored by a high performing “Significantly Exceeds” employee, suffering through the epitome of what is corporate life. Direct excerpt from a conversation with a director level leader: “The only people I see moving up anymore are the ones drinking the kool-aide.” Your performance doesn’t matter nearly as much as how great of a sheep you are.

Pros

Many areas to switch between groups to build your skill set. You are able to find different flavors of things to do before, however this location has lost a lot of work and funding in the past 10 years. Flexible schedule to work a 9/10, 9 days on and 1 day off every 2 weeks. Really good people I've met over the years who I have remained good friends with.

Cons

The pay scale here is lower than other places and it is hard to get what you want or rewarded for your hard work. The managers here are hit and miss. Mostly miss who only care for themselves and leave their employees out to dry and its an old boy's club. I would say about 2/10 managers I have had were really good and would go to bat for you while the rest are only looking to move up for themselves. Examples of bad management would be if you leave their group during evaluation they would give you a 0% raise since you left, and when cutting funding even if you did most of the work, they keep some of those who would stroke their egos and would do anything to appease the manager. The managers here definitely need more management classes to learn to treat people fairly.
