Active collaborations with UCB research groups, access to the nicest TEM center in the US and other advanced user facilities like ALS and Molecular Foundry makes LBNL a magical place for material scientists.

Cons

Hard to get proposals approved for user facilities. Poor benefit for postdocs and staff scientists. Endless training and paperwork to go through.
