Great people to work with. Interdisciplinary research well connected to the UC system. Benefits are great (heath insurance, retirement, etc.). Nice research facilities.

Cons

Hard to get internal promotion (often political). Mentor ship can be great but often mediocre. Work life balance is not great especially with children.

LBL has a great environment for learning and sharing knowledge. You'll be surrounded by experts in many different fields that are always eager to lend a hand and opportunities are abundant.

Cons

The pay could be better.

Great food, environment, very green minded. Person experience with boss: more lenient than industry, good health insurance, vacation & sick days, etc. Interesting stuff, have learned a lot.

Cons

Frequently shrouded in fog (on the hill), bureaucratic beyond anything else I've experienced, sometimes can't take days off due to experiment overriding personal life.
