Pros

- Chance to see the full Project execution cycle - Opportunity to learn from experienced engineers - Chance to work on the plant site if opportunity available - Chance to gain the experience required to become a Chartered Engineer - Experience working with leading clients to understand their unique perspectives

Cons

Over 20 years experience working for various oil & gas companies such as Bectel, Technip, Petrofac, BP, Shell. Never came across the following which I unfortunately did in KBR (UK office): - Cronyism - Racism - brushed under the table (the reason I tendered my resignation) - A culture of blame - Unfriendly staff - Stagnant managerial mindset - Hard workers unappreciated - sly opportunists rewarded - Managerial ego allowed to compromise team success - An extremely political workplace - The company lied regarding salary and renumeration

Pros

They used to look after you well

Cons

Oil price crash combined with not winning any projects for London for about 7 years has put the squeeze on the company. Cancelled christmas parties, laying off staff in the most inhumane ways imaginable. Procurement in particular is being run by poor quality people. A palpable cloud of doom and gloom hovers over the office environment, and everyone is looking over their shoulders, waiting to be hauled into a little room and made redundant.

Pros

Gain some valuable global experience

Cons

Do not apply if you're going to be on the compensation team. Turnover was 150% last year and is already the same this year. That should say enough about management. When your vendors are noticing your turnover and constantly having to retrain a new team, that is a problem. Pro would be the 9/80 schedule and free parking but word on the street is that both of those are about to be taken away.
