Pros

Can work at home. Casual dress unless at client and then its do in Rome as the Romans do. Many possible jobs to change to. Many different organizations to work in. More smart people than perhaps any other company. Great access to research. Decent benefits. Try to avoid layoffs. Great projects to work on. Always looking to work in the latest technology.

Cons

You can end up with way too much travel. Travel benefits suck. Cost savings seem to be more important than revenue growth. Such a big company makes it hard to find out who knows what. Many managers are incompetent.

still big but not blue

Pros

Despite being big blue and all the connotations that come with that, it's still a great place to work with such a large organisation that does such varied products. the locations IBM has across the world is also a bonus in providing the ability to visit other cultures and countries. there are many opportunities for recognition both within the company and on a wider stage with the range of research IBM carries out. work life balance has been a struggle in the past but has improved through the use of our own technology and acquisition of technologies have also spurred the company on.

Cons

the size of the organisation can sometimes be overwhelming

Pros

Working at IBM is like getting another master's degree. There is so much opportunity to learn in this company, and in general, the willingness of senior technical leaders to teach (and of managers to support such education) is remarkable. Although organizational politics will sometimes create barriers, the potential of this large, talented organization can be incredible when focused & engaged on a goal. IBM also seems to be one of the leading firms in terms of "walking the talk" on work life balance. While extensive use of work/life integration tools may be seen by some as stepping off the career fast-track, it is widely used, and the level of flexibility in many divisions/organizations is quite high compared to peer firms.

Cons

Bureaucracy is incredibly high. People often compare it to the US Military or other such government bodies. There will be 6 levels of approval for a $250 purchase. There are layers upon layers of executive management. At any given time, at least one other IBM division will be designing a product that competes with yours.
