Pros
It's software technology and patent portfolio are impressive. At IBM you can work on software projects ranging from mainframes to PCs and the disciplines vary from firmware, operating system and compiler development. Development labs are scattered but multi site software development has been something that IBM has always embraced and known how to do. Being close to IBM Almaden was good as we could cross polinate with research and bring some of the research ideas into products, sometimes very successfully but other times not so. IBM seems to have its fingers in every pie and this was one of the reasons why it appealed to me to work there.
Cons
Outsourcing threats. Building up teams outside of the United States in China and India.
