      Great company to work for, many experts around but lack of agility due to large number of processes.

      Pros

      I found IBM as a company with loads of enthusiastic people. There are always people around helping you out with all sorts of issues. Good live-work balance. IBM is a good starting point for a software development career and I found the knowledge I gathered there very useful throughout my later career. Very useful feedback throughout and at the end of my time at IBM.

      Cons

      There is too much management and processes for agile development which is certainly caused by the size of the company. Rather too many meetings through the work day occasionally causing delays on the actual delivery.

      Diverse Project Opportunities / Training and Promotion Lacking

      Pros

      Wide range of experience in different industries. Opportunity to work with some very talented and diverse people. My experience has been that there is some slow time at the end of projects that you can take advantage of after a grueling project (but not always).

      Cons

      There are some incompetents at IBM, who are very hard to get rid of, and very frustrating to work with. It's hit or miss when management addresses performance issues with these types of employees. Formal training is lacking in my job category. You are expected to find time to complete the computer-based training while you are more than 100% utilized on your project(s). Promotion criteria is nebulous, and not communicated well. There are so many "corporate procedures" to follow that you get lost with what's truly important while you are trying to do your day-to-day work.

      Turmoil waiting to happen

      Flexible work hours; good benefit package; interesting projects/co-workers for different projects.

      Cons

      Senior leadership team focus too much on rewarding investors and employees are left out. No budget for trainging for years. Very little/none profit sharing. Little/none salary increase. High utilization target demand for consultants.
