Pros

IBM is a good place to work for due to its work-life balance. It has smart people who are making well-rounded decisions for many of its projects. Therefore, it has less chance for a project failure than many other companies.

Cons

the downside of working in IBM Global Services is the inability to get visibility and recognition for outstanding performances. The size of the company tend to downplay the reward based on performance. In fact, promotion had more to do with length of tenure than actual review.

Pros

Breadth of opportunities and the people who work at the company. IBM is a place you can grow and have a career. For the most part, you can work any where you want. There are some jobs that are "premier" position" that you may have to work you way in (i.e business development). Also, the company offers a plethora of opportunities enhance your skills and knowledge. The offer tuition reimbursement for advanced education and offer numerous internal educational courses. The majority of staff, middle management, and executives are really good people with hard working values who care about people.

Cons

Salary increases and bonus plans for non sales people are poor. They will hire you at a competitive rate but if you are not in a critical area, expect a "national inflation" rate salary increase. Doesn't do much if you live in area where the cost of living is above the national average. In the Accounting and Finance positions, expect to work long and hard, especially if you are in entry level positions. The costs don't out weigh the benefits.

Pros

IBM is a really large company and there are many opportunities to do some interesting jobs. There are many chances for training ... as long as it's free and it's on your own time. IBM has some really good benefits, although they recently froze their pension plan, they do have a good 401K plan. If you don't have to be on a customer site, then IBM is a big believer in work@home.

Cons

In many parts of IBM, one has to constantly be worried about their job being off shored. Many jobs in IBM require onsite presence and/or weekly travel to customer sites. Many of the jobs are tied to customer contracts, so when contract ends or isn't renewed you have to find another job.
