Pros

IBM Microelectronics works on some of the most bleeding edge technology projects in the industry. You'll be working on industry leading projects. IBM makes the processors in all the latest video game consoles and was a leader in developing multi-core processor designs. Their foundry and manufacturing business

Cons

In my opinion, IBM doesn't want to be in the processor business. They're just trying to milk the division until it no longer helps serve Services and Software groups. I don't believe they compensate the microelectronics group fairly in terms of performance bonuses. Server group almost always gets the lowest bonuses at IBM even though the other groups revenues are based upon server group hardware.

Pros

Following are the best reasons I think anyone should like IBM. -Research in particular helps you innovate and also absorb your creative inputs. -Lot of highlight on work life balance (honest effort from the company) -Very flexible work hours My liking for IBM are mainly because of these additional reasons: -I work in research and not too many companies have industrial research labs like of IBMs. They are unique for carrying academia quality research in industry

Cons

My points of dislikes -not a good ladder in terms of professional growth. You are silo-ed in specific groups and very difficult to reach across. - you are evaluated on your bands and the process is too bureaucratic

Pros

IBM is a good place to work for due to its work-life balance. It has smart people who are making well-rounded decisions for many of its projects. Therefore, it has less chance for a project failure than many other companies.

Cons

the downside of working in IBM Global Services is the inability to get visibility and recognition for outstanding performances. The size of the company tend to downplay the reward based on performance. In fact, promotion had more to do with length of tenure than actual review.
