Pros

I spent five years at HubSpot, and for the majority of that time, the "HEART" acronym truly felt alive. When I joined, the caliber of talent and the genuine empathy of my colleagues were unmatched. It was a place where "the people" was the unanimous answer to why we stayed. I am grateful for the growth, the friendships, and the professional foundation I built here.

Cons

As the company has shifted its focus heavily toward AI and automated scale, the human element has noticeably eroded. In my final year, I experienced a significant disconnect between the company’s public stance on mental health and the reality of how it is handled at the management level. The turning point for me was seeing a past, resolved medical issue used as a performance critique rather than being treated with the empathy HubSpot usually prides itself on. When a period of illness is weaponized in a performance review a year after the fact, it signals that the psychological safety that once defined the culture is no longer a priority.

Some great people, but terrible management

Pros

Despite the negative culture, some of the work can be fun and rewarding

Cons

The culture is genuinely bad at HubSpot. They’ve intentionally modeled their company culture after SpaceX and Amazon, which are notoriously controversial places to work, and it shows. There are a few great managers and team members, but overwhelmingly, there’s an extreme “sink or swim” mentality that focuses solely on numbers and increased shareholder revenue instead of meaningful and thoughtful business decisions. Engineers are tracked and reviewed on how many lines of code they write, not by the quality or effectiveness of the code, which I think is indicative of the broader issues.
