Pros

I have nothing positive to say

Cons

I found out this week from a current member of one of the emea recruitment teams that the emea recruitment team has hired a recruiter and they secretly went to agency to hire for the role, and didnt post it externally under hubspots name. They started hiring for this position around june/july even though they told the people who were let go earlier in the year that they would wait at least 6 months... they DID NOT wait 6 months. This recruiter has already started with hubspot. This is DISHONEST. The person who still works for one of the emea recruitment teams also told me that they were told that the business are not open to considering people who were let go earlier in the year. PARDON ME? leadership made the mistake of overhiring in 2022, they then let go of multiple members of the recruitment team across emea and globally earlier this year who were performing well in there jobs, and now these people are being penalised because of leaderships mistakes? Regardless of if you took voluntary redundancy or if you were involuntary let go, regardless of what area of recruitment you recruited for within EMEA (marketing/engineering/sales ect - whatever), all recruiters who were let go earlier this year should have been given the opportunity to interview for this role. We should have been able to apply and interview. I dont care if its a 1 month contract or if its a permament role and I dont care if its associate level or senior level, we should all be given the opportunity. I am so horrified by hubspots actions and can now honestly say Im embarrassed of what hubspot has become and Im no longer proud to say I worked there. Disgusting. Its no wonder a lot of people who still work there are secretly unhappy.

Hi, thanks for sharing-obviously this is something that Becky (our VP of Talent) and I take seriously-she's taking the lead on the follow up here with our team. With regard to folks impacted by the layoff, it is not true that they are not allowed to reapply to HubSpot. However, you are correct that we are not mandating they be interviewed or get special treatment in the interview process--we have to ensure we have the right skills and team for the future, so it's imperative people are treated fairly and thoughtfully, but we won't be requiring that they be interviewed. Again, following up individually on some of your other concerns, but hope this helps clarify on that particular point. -Katie

Pros

Remote working Great product (and use their own product internally) Intelligent people - some of the coaching I’ve received has been great Generous and fair ramp period/ quota Good tech set up Good brand name - customers also genuinely happy with the product which has led to less account management issues than I’ve had in other sales roles.

Cons

Biggest con is the stress and burnout in the sales org. I’ve seen numerous reps in their first 12 months suddenly appear as “deactivated” on slack at the start of a new month. You feel as if you’re working to keep your job rather than focus on being successful and hitting your quota. This leads to anxiety and sleepless nights worrying about HubSpot. Saas sales is always high pressure, but I’ve never worked somewhere as cut throat as here. It’s a rigorous hiring process, so I think HubSpot maybe needs to start realising that they are the problem so many reps aren’t doing well. Whilst the ramp is generous, at the end of the day your success in that period comes down to luck in your territory. The territory model is a mess. It’s like a shark tank with not enough food there for everyone. I can see how “sourcing” worked in times of high inbound inquiries but it has now led to tenured reps having the best prospects in their names essentially waiting on them to convert to leads. Install base accounts are regularly plucked out of your name and given to new hires with no word of warning. I don’t see this being good for customer relationships either. Set territory models would work far better. Management and sales coaches worked in hubspot during a time of high inbound leads - the advice they are giving either doesn’t work in today’s economy/ internal set up in hubspot, or, they are giving genuinely good advice (to target larger more strategic deals to hit quota as we just don’t have the volume) but not allowing us the time or headspace to work these type of deals. KPIs for the sake of KPIs, I often find myself worrying about the “activity” I’ve done in a day rather than the job itself - closing deals. Some weeks I feel like a BDR.
