      Great place to start a career in retail

      Pros

      H&m was a great introduction to the retail world. I think it's a very fair company that pays it's employees decently. The opportunity for advancement is there, if you want to and are willing to go after it.

      Cons

      My experiences with the management left me to feel that if any associate wanted to advance, they'd have to seek the help of someone above the store manager if they wanted to get something done in a timely fashion and be taken seriously and be recognized for their hard work.

      The Pay is good for a reason

      Pros

      The Pay is good. Good Benefits. You get paid leave for your birthday. The discount's not bad.

      Cons

      No opportunity for advancement if you have a brain. 90% of the managers are not very smart people. It's a very robotic, lifeless, rigid environment that does not value creative input from its employees. There is also an air of distrust of anyone on the lower end of the latter. Also horrible scheduling. It changes everyweek and hours are all over the place. In one week you make work a 6am shift and a 6pm shift and the next week something completely different. Forget about having a routine or a life.

      Difficult to Move Up

      Pros

      If you work hard you get recognized for it and they offer more freedom.

      Cons

      If you don't work hard it doesn't matter and they give endless chances to useless employees. They give hard reviews in order to save money and make it very difficult to move up regardless of how well suited you are for the position.
