      Literally doubled my salary after I left Genetec in less than 2 years

      I work as a professional and always thought I was making a competitive salary at Genetec. In 2 years since I left the company I was able to DOUBLE my compensation. In 8 years as a Genetec employee my ex-boss brainwashed me that there was no better company. I pretty much sacrificed my time and ALOT of money in believing this. This company has a culture that thinks they are better than everyone else, but in reality I've had far better employment since my departure. There is NO family life balance here; do not believe those reviews. Your real family will suffer at this companies expense. As proof, Genetec is a software (IT) company that doesnt allow you to work from home!!!!

      Pros

      Decent cafeteria, basic gym, some nice activities.

      Cons

      Employees are numbers that can be easily replaced (and they are) Management try to promote a good company culture but it is just a show. It took me years to understand this. Most important, they expect employees to do a lot of "unpaid" overtime. They care more about organizing their darn xmas party than the daily well-being of their employees. Management only focusses on R&D and neglect other "less important" departments.

      Really great company culture Really feel like the company is making a difference in the world Fast-paced environment, always interesting

      Cons

      Really hard to grow within the company, I ended up leaving because after many years it was made clear to me that my career growth wasn't important to upper management. The marketing team has a lot of micro managers that just use the junior to do the legwork. They are kept out of strategy meetings and important discussions to help them understand the "why" and then use that as an excuse to not let them grow.
