Pros

Working at Five Guys has been a good professional experience to add to my resume. The coworkers are typically nice people, and the store-level managers have been helpful and willing to teach. My management style and approach has definitely been positively impacted having worked here. The pay for shift managers and up is good ($10+); however, I find it lacking compared to the workload that is put in the managers.

Cons

The workload they out on their managers is high, especially when they deny promotions and raises for well-performing employees. This leads to store-level managers not having the resources available to be successful. The Chicago market has seen a decline in sales over the past few quarters. This is certainly due to the Murrel family's stubbornness on not changing a single thing about their product. Their product is good, but with emerging flavors at competing businesses, they are being deprioritized.

They treat the burgers better than the employees

Pros

The job itself wasn't so bad. At least they let you have fun at work, because it adds to the mood they're trying to create.

Cons

They don't want to give full time hours, because they're trying to avoid paying for health insurance. Unless you're a salaried manager, then they'll work you a ton of hours. You basically have to be a manager working 50+ hours a week to get insurance, and then you're on salary so you won't get overtime pay.

Pros

Fun environment to work in. management is appreciative of hard work. employer is sensitive to personal requests for time off after proving yourself to be a loyal, hard working, honest employee

Cons

The hours can be during busy times of the year, but you are compensated well during lulls in the year.
