Pros

The people and friendships was great. I made the best of my time there to help create some processes and automation that were missing for a long time--or never existed for that matter, and in return, helped save the company a lot $ in not hiring vendors for most of their project work.

Cons

There are no travel benefits unless you're in sales, high turnover, and the medical benes are ok, not great. The move to downtown Bellevue may cripple some of their existing talent base, but will be a better for their image in the long run.

Pros

fun industry, lots of travel related news, opinions, thoughts, ideas. i love to travel and like the concept of working for a travel company.

Cons

very immature in process and thought leadership. primarily a "do"er and not a leader culture. people get promoted thru the ranks without the necessary qualifications or skills. not competence, but loyalty and tenure are rewarded the most. most of the directors have the skills of a team leader or lower level manager at best. very arrogant and ego driven culture. very resistant to change and acceptance of new ways of thinking is very very low. the company revolves around the technology organization--even HR is afraid of the product dev org and will bend over backwards to keep WWPD (world wide product dev) happy, even when they don't deliver.

Pros

Travel discounts for all employees.

Cons

The technology is antiquated and difficult to maintain. There isn't an technological innovation mindset within the company. This shows both within the decade old code base that must be maintained and the lack of forward progress in applying new technologies. The approach to feature development is entirely top-down with little or no room for input or feedback at the lowest levels for engineers. There is also a huge gap between product development and product management. The engineering side rarely sees the larger picture. Minimal effort is made by the marketing/business strategy team to make sure the engineer at the bottom of the totem pole is made aware of the overall vision and direction.
