Pros

The culture, free snacks, and a (small) paycheck that clears sums up this company's good qualities. If you're looking for something else that won't be found here.

Cons

Where to start? Your hours will change weekly allowing no stability one week you go in at 6am another week 7am, and 9am they had a 10am shift which they did away with. Your mornings will start with a huddle in which they will tell the floor everything you need to do better at and how you need to work the phone and take calls. The motto is "smile and dial". You will be contacting customers who have little education and don't know what they're getting into when getting a car with us. Heck, they don't even know the difference between lease and finance. Then you will provide them with down payments, those won't fit the customers budget so you will give as many "talk offs" that you can to get them in the door and get an application ran. The reason for doing so is because you get paid via tier by how many applications get ran. If you want a paycheck you must sell your soul and tell them anything to come in! (FYI you're getting them to come in and get some 2007 car for 22k With over 100k miles that may have roaches or may be flooded inside of it rains. If you feel good about ripping people off this won't be hard but if you have a guilty conscious this may cause sleepless nights) A recruiter may tell you that you can make over 60K a year by performing well but that's purely a lie the avg. income for this department is 35K including you bonus (bonus has a larger tax % so please keep that in mind). When asking about a promotion, advancement, or career pathway during interview they paint this Picasso when in reality advancement is a mess and nearly impossible. You will have "seniors" which are just merely carrier pigeons who provide messages from the higher ups they will be your friend when they need you and the minute they can do you wrong they will (Until they wrong you they may set up some fun games to break up the horrific calls you make and provide you with candy). When it comes to them wronging you, no, I am not talking about my high school days but this job is scary similar too that time period so beware. Then you have supervisors and they don't know about what your job currently entails because they did the position long ago when they company was different and had only 20 employees. They will micromanage you so if you are one who enjoys being babysat, apply. Up the chain of command is managers and our of three there is no communication you would be shocked they know each other's names because one says one thing the other says something different. When it comes to voicing your opinion be careful with your word choice because they may come back to haunt you worse than that chain letter you didn't reply to in 1997. Ladies also if you're planning to grow a family watch out no maternity leave with this place! Finally, if you want to leave know that it's best to quit and run than to give your two weeks and have them pulling you into meetings asking what the company could to better and what made you seek another employer because let's get real here. They can use this app as simple as I can and see the overall professionalism they're lacking as a company.

DriveTime Automotive Group Response

I appreciate the obvious time it took for you to leave this review and provide this feedback to our Internet Development group. While there are many factually incorrect statements (our IDTs agent are compensated at $45,000 a year on average, DriveTime does offer maternity leave for all of our moms-to-be, just to point out a couple), we understand that DriveTime might not be the right fit for everyone despite our competitive compensation packages, career pathing opportunities and culture. DriveTime's IDT exists to help advise people on making the right decision - what's right for them - to get the financing they need to purchase a vehicle. I'd encourage you to speak to your manager regarding your frustrations with your position so we can help meet the expectations we have set, or help you find a different opportunity within the company that may be a better fit for you. Thanks again for your candid feedback.

Pros

I love working at Drvietime. It is mostly a young to middle age crowd in the IT department. This lends itself to lots of energy and excitement about what they are working on. I am in the twilight of my career of 30+ years of working in one way or another with databases. I started just over 3 years ago at DriveTime when I got tired of traveling for my old job and I have not regretted the switch yet. I love being a mentor and trainer of the young database developers and now and then they teach me new tricks as well!! I also get to use the skills I have honed over my many years in the field doing what I love to do, making things faster and better for accessing data. I have never been bored at DriveTime. There have been times I have been stressed from a bit heavy a schedule, but I found my leader understanding when I needed to flex a bit to keep my sanity. And the heavy schedule is not constant. DriveTime does a good job of encouraging you to have an outside life (compared to what I experienced in other companies). I love using KanBan to manage work. So much better than writing weekly status reports for a boss that never read them. Instead we do a quick 5-15 minute stand up each morning to understand where projects are at and what is next to work on. The main office uses a very open environment. That took a couple of weeks to adjust too, but now I would not trade it for anything. I love how if I am feeling tired in the morning, just walking into the energy of the office rejuvenates me. I have never felt freer to share my thoughts and feelings with management than at any other place I have worked at in my long career. Another reviewer warned against doing that implying you would get fired. I have not seen that to be the case in almost 4 years. However, management does not suffer incompetent workers for long. If someone is not or cannot do the work, then yes they are let go. Far better than what I have seen in other places I have worked at where they kept the people and everyone else had to pick up the slack. One place I worked at took over a year to document how a guy would play video games all day long instead of working. DriveTime would have given the guy a couple of warnings and then walked him to the door, all within at most a couple of months. Personally, I prefer the DriveTime way. I have also not seen any type of cronyism. I don’t do golf or watch sports or go to bars like a lot of others at work, but I have not felt my lack of shared outside activities with management has affected my standing at work. They respect me for my abilities in the work place not my chumming up with them after work. One of my favorite management things at DriveTime is how thin the layers are. Between me and the CEO is just two layers. And he knows my name, what I look like and stops by to chat. I even feel like I could go talk to him if I needed to about anything. At one time I worked at GM and trust me the CEO there did not even know I existed. I have found I like working for a smaller company. We get state of the art technology to work with. Two very large screen monitors at our desks to use with our speedy laptops. There are huge monitors in conference rooms you can use to share your desktop during meetings. We have lots of white boards, some even on wheels. We are up on SQL Server 2012 though we still have some old 2000 and 2008 to migrate off of. We each get a mobile device for free. And the office has the newest versions of MS software. Last, I am a woman and even though it seems that the IT field in this part of the US is heavily male dominated, we have four ladies in the database developers group (out of 13 total) and are treated with respect and I have not felt any favoritism affecting the members of our group. I would recommend working for DriveTime. Trust me the grass is not greener in other companies.

Cons

Sometimes I feel like management is like the dog in UP when it sees a squirrel while talking to the man and boy. They need to learn to not always chase after the next shiny thing just because it is new.

All work, no pay

Pros

I love the team of people I work with. They honestly are the only thing that gives my any real incentive to go into work.

Cons

The management is terrible. Not only do they implement useless and stressful in-house policies, but they also downward delegate their responsibilities so the sales team. Positions have been completely erased from existence and the duties have been moved to salesman, cutting into work and sales time, with all previous responsibilities associated to your job title still intact, more added and NO extra pay. Sales goals are unrealistic and usually unobtainable, leaving you with the "potential " to make more than salary, but no real opportunity. Favorites move up quickly. If you want to move up, dont speak your mind or have a mind of your own for that matter. Just dont apply, this place has been in the dumps for a LONG time.
