Pros

The pay is decent although better can be found elsewhere for high performers in the City.

Cons

The leadership is extremely inexperienced, and recently is hostile towards its employees. They treat everyone like children who don't know that things can be better, or shouldn't be like they are at Checkout.com I thought I could slug it out for the somewhat decent pay but it's just not good here. I would not recommend others join.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear about your experience at Checkout.com. Your concerns regarding leadership are taken very seriously. At Checkout.com, we strive to foster an environment where all employees feel respected, valued, and supported. We regret that your experience did not reflect these values. We are currently working on several initiatives: We have new leaders across our senior leadership team and we have a focus on Culture, Inclusion and Communication. We are investing in our People with increased focus on coaching, learning and development with several training programmes aimed at managers shortly to be launched. Our leadership team are committed to embodying our operating principles and welcome feedback through the spaces we have set up such as AEMs and Q&As as well as within individual departments.

Pros

* There are still a handful of decent engineers around the company with a spark in their eyes who you wouldn't mind working with

Cons

The company has been slowly but steadily transforming into an authocratic state with the current CEO reigning supreme. If only a few years ago the upper management would at least pretend to listen to the employees' feedback then now it's only their way or the highway. The most recent reorganization and layoffs caused by the change of CTO forced most people into survival mode when they are afraid of voicing any opinion that contradicts the line established by the higher-ups. When guessing who's next to leave the company next becomes a staple of the leaving drinks ceremonies, you know there's something wrong with the company.

Thank you for your time in leaving feedback, all employee opinions and experiences matter to us. We're genuinely sorry that your experience with Checkout.com has not been positive. We work hard to continually improve our working environment, but recognise that it will not be a fit for everybody. Whilst we are a founder-led business, and able to move quickly in adapting to changes and rising to new challenges, we do not want this to be at the expense of creating a positive experience for our employees. We are investing heavily in our People strategy and in training and upskilling our leaders across the business. Change can not always be positive, but we believe in doing the right thing, rather than the easy thing and have had to make difficult decisions as an organisation to create a strong platform for our employees to thrive going forwards. Thank you again for your feedback.

Pros

- Breakfast and lunch offered - Events are a big deal

Cons

- Lack of diversity & inclusion in leadership - High turnover in senior management leading to reshuffling of priorities and constant restructuring. This affects career progression and generally team morale. (The previous guy is always the wrong hire & made wrong decisions.) - Adamant with RTO policy enforced to have people in office despite CKO working well during Covid with WFH. - The Boys Club at the top get to make the decisions and are clear of accountability. The culture of scapegoating is under the surface, hidden under the big words of operating principles, but very much there. - Generally more reactive than proactive when it comes to technical issues. - It's one of those places where if you're good at what you do, you get rewarded with more work and no recognition. - Performance review system is flawed with obvious preferences to certain teams, close to the The Boys Club. - Many, many teams and very often looks like some of those teams exists only for the sake of it with no actual value. - Office politics is out of control, it's the only way to survive in this company. If you do not play this game or you're not a "yes-man", this is not the place to even consider.
