Pros

The products are great and for the most part do what it says on the tin. Training is good and you learn a lot though it gets repetitive after you've been shown how to do a smokey eye a dozen times. Working for Chanel looks amazing on your CV and will help you with other jobs in the long run. Staff allocation is rather generous and commission can be great if you hit your target.

Cons

No progression, unless you are prepared to keep your mouth shut and just go with whatever they say. If they don't like you then there's no chance for a promotion! Senior management are lying bullies and proud of it! Some managers are also racist and very unprofessional! The more robotic you are and the less personality you have the better you will be liked, be like bland flavorless porridge and you will be loved! Targets are ridiculous and un-achievable but they are done that way so there's less chance of hitting your commission! Senior managers think they are better than their employees because they get paid more for doing less and look down on their staff!

Pros

Having Chanel on your resume, the discount, some of the benefits are decent.

Cons

Pay was embarrassingly low. All of the perks in the world could not make up for the awful salary for me. This is unacceptable, and other places, as I have learned, pay much more. A pat on the back only goes so far. Toxic office politics and very gossipy environment. Some of the long-haul employees act with impunity and engage in toxic behaviors that go unchecked. I felt like it was worse than high school and not limited to my department. I always felt short staffed, and the company would seemingly rather squeeze its employees more than hire more people. There is almost no room for growth and I felt there was a lot of phony advocacy and empty promises from leadership and upper management. Maternity leave option is adequate but not as good as other places imo.

Pros

THE top luxury line in the world - No 1, NO COMPARISON Epitomy of all fashion, luxury, quality etc Prestige, mystery, glamour, "untouchable" status etc The envy of all....

Cons

THE majority of the NY and NJ Cosmetic (Beaute and Fragrance) division is "managed" by middle-aged, divorced, (or never been married), obsessed, very BITTER and VINDICTIVE women who were hired only because their best friend works there and they got them the job...you know how it is - the same "favorites" game and politics that is in the all the department stores is unfortunately no different in this part of the brand. They lack the solid education, real hands-on experience, competence and history of what it really takes to make CHANEL what it should be to excel business and be a true luxury line. And while Mlle Chanel herself was never married and albeit career obsessed, they severely lack the vision, finesse, and mind-set she herself had. This is a game of who will stab whom in the back to make themselves look better - and I mean, lies, completely stretching truths, covering up errors pathetically, and just a whole boatload of unethical tactics.
