I’ll just leave this post Well folks the day has finally come, I am no longer part of the Carmax family. With that being said, and the fact I can speak freely about it let me share a few bits of information 1. The prices of the vehicles are exhbortant for what they are 2. The stores are so short staffed that the service department does not have the time to properly inspect or maintain the vehicles for your purchase. I received countless phone calls of customers trying to return a vehicle that had been purchased in the past 30 days do to mechanical failure. 3. The credit application process is predatory. The sales department no longer gets incentives to sell you the car, only to run your credit, and some associates do not mind misleading you to get you to run another application that could result up to another eight inquiries per application These are just a few things not related to actually working for them, working conditions and pay is atrocious as well as the feedback from management. If you took the time to read this I implore you to find your next vehicle any where else but Carmax.

Pros

Good pay for the given work. Good Benefits. Great for students.

Cons

Management seems to be inconsiderate of emergencies with respect to attendance. I had a death in the family and a manager came to me about it saying that I did not give advance notice even though I had given notice a week in advance.

Pros

I spent the past 3 years working in big tech where "work life balance" is a buzz word but you're still expected to work lots of overtime constantly if you want to succeed. CarMax is a breath of fresh air. My team is productive and consistent while working a normal amount of hours. When we have technical debt, we attack it. When on-call becomes painful, we fix it. We have latitude to do what needs to be done while delivering the best possible solution to our customers. Our tech stack is relentlessly modern. We are constantly evaluating new features and solutions to ensure that we are as efficient as possible. This is near on perfect for how a technical team should run and I can't imagine leaving this team.

Cons

Not all teams are like mine. Some teams are quite the opposite, actually. They can be toxic, ineffective and painful. I feel bad for people on some teams.
