Pros

Overall Business Model of CarMax is revolutionary and their are now a lot of competition. Also, work life balance and time away is retail industry best.

Cons

Buyers and Senior Buyers are now viewed as commodities and easily replaceable. Also, stringent corporate structures and policies erode the employee first mentality. Lastly, a culture rooted in continuously coaching and feedback has developed a micro managing work day of Buyer and Senior Buyer talent. Notably CarMax ability to identify and hire solid car buyers is a challenge within current model and that is why there is a push for an hourly vehicle appraiser to plug information in to fulfill CarMax's overall goal of plug and play automation in its vehicle values and buying processes.

Car Sales or CULT!

Pros

Amazing co workers. getting to drive a variety of cars.

Cons

let me be clear this place is a CULT not a car dealership. You will be forced to drink to kool-aid. You dare not comply or else. there is no real inspection on any of the vehicles they are made to look good or run good for 7 days ( the return period) after that you will be flooded with complaints from customers you tricked into buying a car. this place is just like every other dealer ship. lies, tricks and swindling. Micro managing is an understatement when it comes to this management team. They would watch you pee and critic it if they legally could. We could probably sell more cars if we weren't being constantly forced to drink punch. you will be required to attend un paid mandatory meetings where they make u spend hours role playing car sales rather than actually selling cars and i'm not talking monthly meetings i'm talking DAILY. yes they have daily meetings. They have to assure everyone is getting their recommended dose of carmax punch. Half my sells were lost from management hoovering over and freaking out the customers i had built a relationship with. you will be forced to spend hours responding website emails and questions to what really should be a customer service job not a commissioned sales associate. half your day is spent in this "E office" and rarely do any sales ever come of it. If your looking to get into car sales just go to a normal dealership.

Pros

I worked my way up in the ranks with this company. From a business office associate to ABOM. I had a great GMband Business office manager who did everything they could do to help me learn and grow within the company. generally willing to work with school schedules if you are in high school or college.

Cons

Retail hours for car selling goes until 9 pm and 10 pm on the weekends. Most car dealerships around me closed at 6. Compensation was just okay. For all of the work you do and micromanaging from regional VPs it was barely worth it. There is a bonus plan in place, but that's if you hit the quota.
