Pros

It used to be fun

Cons

Current LGM and ASM have zero management and people skills, micro manage all the time. Sales managers are lazy, arrogant and they favor certain sales consultant. CarMax is still paying $150.00 commission since the company was started.

Pros

The only pro would be that they start you off with decent pay.

Cons

My experience working at CarMax was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. Initially, I was excited to join the team. The orientation was well-organized, and the senior manager spoke highly of the company’s values. Unfortunately, once I began working in the Business Office, everything was quite different. The office environment was extremely unprofessional. There were inappropriate relationships between some associates, managers, and sales consultants, creating a very messy and uncomfortable atmosphere. Confidentiality was nonexistent, private conversations with leadership would quickly become common knowledge among staff. Management lacked competence, empathy, and effective leadership. Scheduling was disorganized, and it was difficult to get clarity or consistency in work hours. The overall culture in the Business Office was toxic, and the high turnover rate reflects the lack of support and respect for employees. I believe CarMax needs to invest more in proper leadership training for its Business Office managers and leads. My expectations were high, but this experience was one of the most disheartening I’ve had in a professional setting.

Pros

There are none. Run far away.

Cons

They preach one thing and and do the EXACT opposite. Putting people first, nah. Stores frequently steal cars from online customers. They pressure to run applications on cars knowing the car will not arrive in time and will need to be reran. They do not care about mental health. If you type notes for more than 4 minutes, they will be all over you saying work avoidance. Managers are hired with NO experience in the store or knowledge of the systems. They get the same training as sales associates. I frequently had to train new managers on how to support their associates. My favorite is when they randomly tell you, "hey everyone. We know you just got a schedule, but everyone in the entire company has to rebid for their schedule and no guarantee that you will get one you favorite. It was a way to have people quit.
