Pros

I chose to work at CarMax because when I was hired, they offered unlimited OT and the bonus structure was definitely attainable with hard work and focus. Also, it was a WFH position. The benefits are decent.

Cons

After working there about 5-6 months, they completely cut out OT, and also started using an automated system that listens in on your calls. This system screens your calls for key words. If you don’t say these specific words on your call within a certain window of time, you get a zero for that call which then kills your bonus. The pros that pulled me in are no longer a thing.. now I can’t afford to pay my bills on time. You also can not move up unless you are hitting all the goals. Also, management was very transparent about the fact that they OVER-HIRED. So many people that I was hired with have voluntarily left the company.

Pros

The job is fun, the people who work there are good people that deserve better from management and corporate.

Cons

Benefits aren't that great, you have no work life balance from the schedule. Their most loyal and long-term employees have not been given raises to keep up with the recruiting budget so new hires consistently make $2-3 more an hour than the people training them. They use corporate meetings and one on one meetings with management to intimidate employees not to talk about their pay because they know they are mistreating their long term employees by not matching their pay to the recruiting budget. There is no where to go up unless you want to move out of state. The company has no interest in their employees work life balance because they are so short staffed and unable to retain anyone. They add anti union trainings in onboarding because they know how bad the conditions are.

Pros

Great atmosphere, flexibility with hours, great if you’re a student.

Cons

Anytime the company wanted to maximize profits, it usually would always cut back on employees pay, perks and benefits. When I started benefits and perks were great. However, every year they would slowly would cut back resulting in higher insurance premiums and lower pay for new hires in salary positions. Hiring from outside instead of promoting with in the company, probably to offer a lower salary. I saw too many positions that were given to outsiders. Fastest way to lose the hardest working employees that always go above and beyond. Too many outstanding employees were overlooked which resulted in employees to move on. Carmax LOVES to push that it’s wrong for employees to talk about salary and could result in being fired. Don’t know if that’s changed but being fired for speaking about salary is against the law and I’d suggest employees discuss salary.
