Pros

This starts as a great place to work, they provide all the training you need, and then continue to train the crap out of you, even though it’s repetitive. Can be a fun, team environment at times. It’s nice to offer customers a low pressure, easy shopping experience.

Cons

Inconsistent income with it being commission and they keep changing the payment structure so that sales consultants get paid less and less and you have to at times split your pay with others even if they did nothing. This is a very “corporate” company, the top dogs make way too much money, 6+ figures while everyone else gets paid crap. The LGM at Chattanooga has a huge ego. You are never exempt from training even though you’ve shown time and time again you can demonstrate what you’re being trained on at the “world class” level. The prices of the cars have risen so much, it’s harder to sell them. You can get a new car for almost the same price as some of the new ones.

Pros

Associates are the only pro at this company, but friends can make any job fun so take that as you will.

Cons

Coming from the management team I can promise you they don't care about their associates just the #'s. The pay is set to be at the bare minimum of what minimum wage is and if you have been with carmax for more than 2 years all new hires will either make the same or more than you. Promotion are dangled in your face like a carrot but are always out of reach they will hire from outside the company before hiring within.

Pros

Benefits: tuition reimbursement, medical/dental/eye, stock grants Met some awesome people. Learned some financial literacy

Cons

There has always been a lack of communication between LGMs to Managers and Managers to Associates. The sales managers are are tasked with way too much work to realistically get done aside from also working to make the sales budget. There is no accountability for anyone, and everyone knows it; hence a free for all attitude. This can be a good and bad thing. Problems are never resolved even if brought to management. The training is horrible for every associate in every department. The pay is average. On my 10 year anniversary, 5 of the 70 or so associates that happened to be free gathered in the conference room for cake with my name spelled wrong. Oh and I also received points that transferred into a $300 gift card. Again, for my 10 year anniversary. The hours are long (scheduled 50). Seems even longer when the other managers are not doing what they should be doing. There should never be 1 manager in the building. The sales consultants need to be taught to be more self sufficient instead of relying on the manager to do every little thing,
