Pros

- The people are kind and friendly, particularly my line manager. - Think there was a good pension but I don't remember what, exactly. - Share scheme. If you spend 3% of your salary on shares through salary sacrifice, CGI will match this. And if you wanted, you could just sell those shares immediately, gaining 3%.

Cons

- Nothing to do. I had 2 job offers. At my previous employer, I had the same problem and was made redundant which I found incredibly stressful. I chose CGI because they convinced me this wouldn't happen here. I was told I'd be working for a client in roughly 2 weeks after starting. 3 months later, I still had no client, so I resigned after only 3 months and went to work for the company I had turned down 3 months earlier. Feel like I was lied to by the recruiter who told me I'd have work within 2 weeks. I was told by my manager that the recruiter should not have told me this. - The job board. Most consultancies that I have worked for will arrange a client for you. At CGI, you have to go onto a job board and apply for those jobs yourself. If you are without a job for a long time, you become at risk of redundancy. However I was told there are ways around this (e.g. if you are coming to the end of that time period, you can sign up for a certification training and that resets the clock). For me, this defeats the purpose of working for a consultancy. I may as well apply for these jobs myself outside of CGI and be paid more as a consultant.

Pros

Compared to other service providing companies that I have worked with, i cant seem to recollect any special pro to list here

Cons

- Management is built with friends and family circle rather than based on eligibility and capability. - No respect for developers. Open humiliation in the office and in front of clients. - No humanity, empathy or any kind of emotional sentiment for employees. Employees are reprimanded even with severe health issues and are forced to work beyond 10-12 hours with no overtime. This has caused a lot of employees to have come out of this company with anxiety disorder, panic attacks and heart conditions. - Managers do not know the definition of their role and hence are unaware of their roles and responsibilities and they consider the designation of Manager as owning employees as slaves. - No backbone or decision making skills. Lacking basic IT 101 knowledge also do not help any further. - No monitory or skill growth. Still work on outdated technology and no learning growth on recent technology. Most of the projects are still being worked on Angular 2 - No diversity or inclusivity. - 0 work life balance

Pros

Pension and other perks are very competitive (e.g. Aviva Digicare+ app which lets you book online GP appointments. Useful for getting prescriptions for ailments such as depression, stress, brought on by your day to day CGI experience).

Cons

Far too many to list. I have never worked for a company where there are so many people who are either a) incompetent or b) utterly self interested or c) both. If you are a competent software developer and have got used to working for modern, product based companies, as I have, my advice is to not touch CGI and consultancy in general with a five metre barge bole. Don't be fooled by the notion that you can simply get on the internal jobs board and move to another project -there aren't enough on the go if you're a Java developer and if you're experienced your pay grade will disqualify you. Managers are terrible - I've had four in 8 months and I only liked one of those, although she barely spoke to me (probably why I liked her). Management style tends to fall between "don't give a toss about you" to "I'm going to micro manage every aspect of your working day". This even applies to scrum masters on projects who aren't even your manager. CGI is a bureaucratic hell - they actually send you fake phishing emails to "test" you.
