Pros

Met some good friends, 10% discount

Cons

Working here is like being in a circus run by erratic clowns. The managers? Well, they've mastered the art of behaving like children on a sugar rush – throwing tantrums, bullying staff, and showcasing a level of incompetence that's almost impressive. It's a rollercoaster of emotional instability. And let's talk about the workload. They expect you to juggle a dozen flaming torches while riding a unicycle, all for the grand prize of minimum wage. It's like signing up for a marathon, only to find out it's an ultra-marathon with no finish line in sight. In a nutshell, it's less of a workplace and more of a survival game. They treat you like a dog learning new tricks, but the only reward is a pat on the back and a "good job" before they throw more hoops for you to jump through. If you're considering applying, my advice? Run – run like your sanity depends on it.

DO NOT WORK FOR B&M

Pros

The people you work with are the sole pro about working for this company.

Cons

After 7 long years, I have finally managed to escape employment at B&M. I first knew it was time to go during COVID, when it was made clear that the company cares about one thing and one thing only: money. I knew the company didn't care about its employees already, but it wasn't until COVID that they made it very apparent, and it has only gotten worse since then. Anyway, no-one's going to read paragraphs of text, so here are some bullet points: - Terrible wage / salary. - Frequent payroll cuts with no regard for the amount of people needed to keep the store running. - Workload is not taken into account when these cuts are made, resulting in the store falling behind and low morale. - Area manager is disgustingly rude (especially to the store managers) and has an overly inflated ego. Fake and nice to your face, rude and condescending through e-mail and WhatsApp. - Constantly spoken down to by head office, especially by the IT, profit protection and payroll departments. - Visits from mystery shoppers and area managers are CONSTANT and just distract people from actually getting anything done other than making the store look "nice" when it's reported someone is on their way. If I deter even one person from applying to work for this company then writing this review has been worth it. You are not a person to these people. You are nothing to them but a body. Find an employer who will treat you with respect, because this is something you won't find with B&M.

Pros

Sorry i can't think of many pros other than there is loads of autonomy, stack it high sell it cheap mentality

Cons

B&M does not support it's managers, you are set up fail all the time, when it goes wrong you are dragged over the coals and when you do well you get very little if no recognition. The systems are so inadequate they are constantly screwing up the stock control system, you are constantly bombarded with very cheap poor quality rubbish from China that only sells as it is so cheap. Most other managers i met always felt the same, some were suffering with depression because they felt so let down and unsupported by their area managers. The salary is very low for a store manager from around 24k to 27k I would not recommend B&M everything about is low quality, the stock, the culture and the pay.
