Pros

Made Some great friends over my time with the company , The commercial aspect of running a B & M has improved greatly in recent years with much more focus been put on Staff which is a big plus, I was a B & Mer through and through until recently however........

Cons

I have a story of two halves to tell whisk spans two B & M area's with two completely different experiences. I started in an old run down B & M unit as a supervisor in the north Manchester area and progressed through to Deputy Manager. I worked hard and long hours but never once felt like I didn't want to go to work. The team were amazing right from the bottom to the top a true team in every sense I always felt like I had done a fair days pay for a fair days work. My manager was tough but fair. I took on many roles and was always given appropriate feedback and however I moved after many years to a new area ( still in Manchester ) because I met a new partner again B & M came up trumps and because they valued me my area manager eventually helped me find a deputy manager position in South Manchester close to my new home and this is when my feelings about B & M changed forever because My manager was horrendous she was rude , offensive, overbearing and rasist. I am quite a strong character and tried to face this head on but from that moment I was bullied relentlessly I took my problem to my new area manager who in the end could only offer me a move to a close by store as a lesser paid floor manager which I took to get out of the situation. The store I moved to still had the same area manager but my new store manager was much much better but as my confidence returned I felt agrieved that my reputation didn't stand for anything even my old area manager had told the new area manager that this was not my fault but in the end I was penalized by being demoted ( even though they re- promoted me after three months ) I had lost faith so with a very very heavy heart I left b & M and found a new job. I suppose I would recommend that anyone thinking of employment with them first visr the store and talk to the staff in my experience they are the most wonderfully honest people and if you lucky it will be in a good area if not stay clear as they knocked my confidence almost to the point of no return. I was known as Mrs B & M at one point and lived and breathed them. My heart is still sad at my treatment

They employ just about anybody Bad management Employing/promoting pals whilst ignoring actual skilled workers Demeaning environment and talked down to/watched on camera daily Less than one week rota change + scheduled in for more random shifts AFTER rota up without consent
