Pros

Awesome Benefits Great Pay Generous Vacation and Sick Time

Cons

STRESSFUL to the point of CREATING sickness, I mean, physical illness. I never thought it was possible until working here. Some supervisors are insane slave-drivers. Even when you are exceeding metrics and your CSATs are great, it is NOT good enough. Some will set standards for you that they cannot meet themselves. Trust me, I have listened to a couple of their calls. A very political environment - it is really about who you know and who LIKES you Passive Aggressive Environment - Many have very nice-nastynastynastyNASTY attitudes Cult-Like Environment - Jonestown-ish. Don't drink the Kool-Aid! CUT-THROAT - Don't trust what anyone tells you unless you have it in writing. They will throw you under the bus, jump in the drivers seat and run you over, back over you, run you over AGAIN, then wipe of the steering wheel like they did NOTHING wrong. EVERYTHING else that you can imagine in a hostile work environment. Pretty much, anything that doesn't involve the pay and benefits and keep in mind, the health benefits are NECESSARY if you work here. WARNING: Do not trust ANYONE in their Ombudsman department. There is NO confidentiality....whatsoever.

Pros

1) Brand Name 2) Nothing more...

Cons

1) Lot of ego in Management; no respect for frontline CCPs. Threat of termination and blocking of incentive payout are issued for no reason. 2) Lacks transparency 3) Though company claims to be "Equal opportunity employer", a lot is left to be desired. The internal movements are dependent largely on PR, favoritism and politics. No feedback shared to explain the rejection// opportunity areas to te applicant. 4) Tremendous work pressure with unsatisfactory payouts. 5) Lack of acknowledgement of efforts. 6) Highly unstable. Ad-hoc decisions are taken and implemented without carefully evaluating the consequences. Results in utter chaos. 7) Non-existent benefits (considering American Express Brand name) 8) Transport system is utter chaos

Technically Challenged

Pros

American Express has good health care benefits There is an effort to shift the culture to a more software development friendly environment but they are far from where they need to be.

Cons

Way too much bureaucracy in attempting to do basic technical activities. Getting a working laptop can take weeks and approvals for standard development software requires VP approval for admin rights. Allocating development, test, and production environments can literally take months. Many of the decision makers are not technically qualified. Layoffs are common. Resources are spread way too thin. Funding for projects is based on waterfall but execution is based on agile. The review system blows if you are not on a funded project.. Project executions are often based of tactical funding decisions resulting in long term rework.
